Price Range?~$50 give or take $10
Slot 1/2?Slot 1
Built in or expandable memory?Expandable
Special features?Movie and music support would be nice but aren't necessary
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particularCycloDS or R4DS
Other?Needs to be easy to use, have good speed and battery life

Support slot-2 GBA?No
Support slot-2 rumble packs?No
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)?No

I'd prefer something with SDHC support but SD alone should be OK too. I've noticed that the R4DS III (Clone) has SDHC support and is considerably cheaper than the CycloDS, how does it stack up versus the R4DS and the CycloDS? I've also read that the battery life with the R4DS is like 2 hours of play which isn't nearly enough. All of this is making me lean towards the more expensive and seemingly more useful, reliable and ultimately better CycloDS but i'd rather not drop the extra dough if I don't have to.

So... Convince me to get a CycloDS.

You should definitely not get the R4 because it is no longer updated. Get a cyclo since you seem to want that and it is just at your price range and does everything you want it to do. However, the acekard 2 is $40 cheaper and still does everything you want it to do. Every cart can easily play music and movies via moonshell and play homebrew emulation. Your choice. If you want cyclo i would say it is a great choice but for the same features you are looking for you can get the acekard 2 for about $40 cheaper but cyclo DS has a more responsive team and some unique feature such as real time save, in game text reader, and slow motion. Both are great for you and will do all you are looking for. You can have the final decision. cyclo will get you the cart with the most features on the market with slow motion and all the bells and whistles of the DS world while acekard 2 has everything you are looking for in specific but does not have the extra game features but does have the feature of saving you $40. lol you can get acekard 2 really cheap at dealextreme.com for like $13.

So the Acekard2 and the CycloDS do basically the same thing only the Cyclo has more little features like slow-mo and real time saving? How do they compare on battery life?

Also i've tried checking dealextreme.com to see the $13 deal you mentioned but their site must be down. Every other site I check has Acekard 2's for like $30-40. The best deal i've found on an Acekard is at realhotstuff.com and its for the Acekard 2 and a 1gb flash card for $28. At that rate I might just spring for the Cyclo and have the better support and extra features although i'll probably never use them.

yes you got it right, they both basically do the same thing, play games, homebrew, support SDHC and all that but the CycloDS just has more features on whatnots. It's your choice. The money factor is there too always. As for the battery life I am not really sure but the Cyclo DS just got another one of its features earlier this week called "battery saver mode" which lengthens the battery time so I am guessing that the cyclo has better battery time.

here is the $13 deal I was talking about:
http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11811

here is also a microSD 4G for $10 totaling both to $23 to get you a cart and good microSD. That's a steal IMO, I already bought one from them:

When I tried to go to dealextreme.com yesterday it said the website could not be found. Anyway, I figure that for the $12 and change i'll spend on the Acekard 2 it wont bust my wallet to try out the DS homebrew scene and if I decide I like it I can always replace the Acekard 2 with a Cyclo down the line. I've gone ahead and put in my order for an Acekard 2 and a 4gb sdhc at Dealextreme. Hopefully their 3-6 day free shipping will come through and i'll recieve it on Wednesday, the day before we go on our 6 hour road trip to Las Vegas.

Oh and about SDHC cards... any "big" difference between classes (2 to 6) running on the cards you mentionned?

Thanks!

CycloDS has strong support on their Team. Updates, well the final update has already been released.

SDHC? Only thing is that Class 6 = Fastest. No differences except that all read SDHC I think.

CycloDS has lots of features from what I am reading.

- Real-Time-Save ( Save within game )
- Real-Time-Guide ( Read Text Files During Game )
- Real-Time-Cheat ( Activate Any Cheat You Want to During Game )
- Slow-Mo ( It says it-self. Slow Motion! )
- Supports SDHC
- Team has very good support
- Final Update was released.
- Battery Saver ( I guess means you can save more battery )

Hope that's enough xDD

The only con is most expensive of all flashcarts.

To be completely honest, I'm not quite sure if DX ships things that fast. Unfortunately, their free shipping is quite sluggish because it is coming from Hong Kong. But don't worry, they are completely 100% trustworthy and will get you your product but I am not sure about 5-6 days. It will probably take longer than that but maybe you'll get lucky.

If not then don't worry, just sit tight till you get your new awesome cart. You can always track your oder with their order tracking feature if that helps. Hope you enjoy your purchase.

Here is the order tracking link:

Most people from this forum are USA which according to most people takes 2-3 weeks shipping from dealextreme.com

I recently purchased an Acekard 2 from them and I live in Australia. From my previous online shipping experiences items have reached here in approximately 5-7 working days, which is definitely not very long. Since USA is a rather big country I'd imagine the item would spend alot of time traveling interstate?

Back again...because I'm really bad at deciding things.

Anyways, due to some rather large bills coming in, I may need to change my choice of a new FC (as I can't upgrade my M3 DS Simply to play the new games anymore...or at least do it successfully).

My top choices were the Cyclo DS, Acekard 2 or possibly either the Supercard/Edge/M3 Real. I'd also need a reliable GBA Slot card as well, and have heard that both the Ez-Flash 3-in-1 and the M3 Perfect GBA Expander are good choices.

My top price would probably be around $40-ish, but if the Cyclo still is recommended on top, I may try to spring for it somehow. I already have an 8G SDHC card and reader, so I'm good there.

(And for those who would rather read the form instead...here you go. Any and all help would be appreciated)

Use? Games mostly (and undubs)
Price Range? Around $40-ish, give or take
Slot 1/2?Slot 1 and Slot 2
Built in or expandable memory?Expandable
Special features? Decent Updates, Easy-to-use/install firmware, Supports GBA-slot cards, cheat support
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular?CycloDS, AceKard 2, (or EDGE, Supercard, M3 Real)
Other?Decent Speed, good battery life, etc.

Support slot-2 GBA?Yes, if possible.
Support slot-2 rumble packs? Not necessary
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)? Not necessary

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a flashcard for slot-1 just for games, I'm looking for the cheapest one but I still want one that works well. What would be the card for me?

I know there's been dozens of pages worth of posts by now, and most likely, someone has had similar, if not identical criteria to mine, but I shudder at the though of scouring all those pages, in the hopes of finding that particular post. So...

Use? Playback of DS and GBA game backups. MAYBE homebrew, music, or video, but not likely
Price Range? Flexible - I'd prefer under $50, but if something over that is a better solution, I can work with it.
Slot 1/2? Whichever works best for my needs. I'm guessing both, though.
Built in or expandable memory? Expandable, though both would be fine too.
Special features? perfect (or near perfect) GBA and DS backup compatibility, ability to enter cheat codes found online (Action Replay, Gameshark...whatever)
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular whatever works best
Other? no slowdowns (or very little), easy to use, very reliable

For all slot-1's (ignore if you want a slot-2):
Support slot-2 GBA? Yes
Support slot-2 rumble packs? optional
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)? optional

From what I can tell, the most likely solution for me would be one of the "Flash kits" that include both a Slot 1 and a Slot 2 card. I definitely want something with a micro SD (preferably SDHC, but not required) slot, that doesn't require any special software on the PC side. I don't have a NDS yet, but I plan on getting the DS Lite, sometime in the next month or so, and basically, I'd like to be able to play all (or most) of my GBA games, without having to swap cartridges every time. Being able to do the same for any DS games I get would be a HUGE plus, though.
biggrin.gif

Thanx everyone,
k1darkknight

*edit*
By the way, I wouldn't mind purchasing a Slot 1 and Slot 2 card separately, I just want the best solution for being able to play both DS and GBA games.

Acekard2 + EZ V 3 in 1. For cheap prices buy it at dealextreme. Cheatfiles for cards can be found here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=84991

Well you can turn all of them on and off in the ingame menu, but you can't select them individually.

Use?
mostly NDS games and homebrew. may try NES and SNES games too (though PSP may serve that use)

Price Range?
As inexpensive as possible. under $30 would be nice but doubt it

Slot 1/2?
Slot 1

Built in or expandable memory?
Expandable. Doesn't have to be SDHC

Special features?
Periodic Updates
simple to upgrade firmware
Easy and intuitive interface
drag/drop roms
no need to patch or do other things to play roms (like R4)
adjust light screen for ds lite
decent audio/video support (play some music and able to watch reasonable sized vids)
easy for custom skins, icons, etc

Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular?
Well, I've had a R4 for over a year. Something that works along the same vein would be great. not sure but hear good things about:
CycloDS, AceKard 2, EDGE

Other?
Durable cartridge, relatively quick load times, easy to insert/remove microsd (no spring would be nice), etc

Do not really care about:
Support slot-2 GBA?
Support slot-2 rumble packs?
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)?

Choose between the Acekard 2 and Edge, Edge probably has a bit more physical durability, but Acekard 2 definitely has the better menus and features. Acekard is also quite a bit cheaper. To me it seems that these 2 carts best suit your budget.
