You can try VideoLAN player or Media Player Classic.....or even *shudder* RealPlayer

I totally agree that CCCP is the way to go.

You can play any media type you throw at it, using the included media player classic, in combination with all the codecs it installs.

For playing individual tracks and videos then it's got to be MPC (combined with CCCP).

If you're after all the media library stuff that's in media player then your best option is probably Winamp. Unfortunately the latest versions of Winamp have TONS of crap included with them that I spend ages clearing out, although after that Winamp is nice and nippy and I love the media library built into it. You could also have a look at foobar2000, which is a very powerful media player, with low memory and CPU usage whilst still being highly customisable (and loved by audiophiles), but it can take awhile to get it tweaked to how you like it.

I might get lynched saying this, but iTunes is quite good as well

You can also combine iTunes and foobar2000

I suggest downloading a codec pack for Windows Media Player. That's what I did and now it plays everything (even more support than VLC has).

Plus you actually get thumbnails instead of the traffic cone icon.

MPlayer is good(SMPlayer is a nice front end as well). But for when I play songs from library of music I use Quod Libet which does not have a windows build.

Music -> Winamp + Azenis 2 [skin] + g-force 3.7.5 [vis]
I actually just like to use the default skin with nitevision color scheme and the Osciloscope_and_VU_meter visualizer
Virtual_Dimension_RMX is a nice theme though and Proyections

Sadly, not anymore. I notice it gives me slowdowns on 720p video.
I suggest people get mpc-homecinema and corecodec AVC
