Can I go directly from 3.71 M33 to 5.0 M33-3?

Or is there a specific method of doing such?

Try using the network update on your psp.
It will tell you what its going to update to.

Just download the newest firmware from Dark_AleX's site.

Read the instructions in the readme.

Don't network update unless you have 3.71 M33-3.

Install 3.71 M33-3 first. Then I'd recommend just downloading 5.00M33 then installing it from memory card rather than network update.

However, I have a problem now. My two psp backups that worked under 3.71 M33 no longer work under 5.00 M33-3. They don't even display icons for the games in the game menu.

Is there something I have to do to bring back support for .iso game backups whilst using 5.00 M33-3?

Try to fresh format your memory stick everytime you update to a new firmware.

Also try to enter recovery menu to switch your UMD drive between M33 Drive and Sony Drive. The backup might work in one of those.
