patch doBlockRead in IOS to use the video commands and not some strange ioctl. fastest way and even works with system menu when removing LowOpenPartition.
waniokos code is crap, he issues 10 reads when one would be enough....

Ah so the 'Waninkoko' hate continues. I'm so glad he gave you all the finger, because I certainly would too.

Ok now, go back to your 'marcan' worshiping.

i think that since the sourcecode from wiigator is available, someone will consider your hints.

That source code is pretty useless for doing it the right way. Entirely wrong approach.

Well, thanks for those with insight and skill for explaining things. Although I only understood about 75% of what erant wrote, I find these things extremely interesting. And thanks to marcan for responding in a mature way to claims which must surely be pretty maddening. By a bunch of pirates, nonetheless.

What I don't understand though, is this talk of how much better you could code a loader if you wanted to; clearly the vast majority of people posting here these days are in fact pirates (yes, admit it), so the only possible reason for you to do this, it seems, is to snottily tease them. Which is pretty.. childish. And can only lead to flamewar. I understand the "scene"'s grudge against pirates (though I do not share it), but this doesn't really make you any.. better?

He was asked if he could do it better. Are you blaming him for not saying "no"?

isnt it based on Waninkoko's code?
Yes, which is the problem. Waninkoko's approach is the easiest (and basically the only one that he could put together with the existing tools), but it's also not readily "fixable". You'd have to start from scratch to do it right.

The main compatibility problem with Waninkoko's (and Wiigator's) backup loader is that all games are forced to use IOS36 (a hacked one, saved under a different number).

Some games can't accept that (ie, they want IOS21 or some other version) and fail to load.

I read all the pages here so from my understanding the Wii's has a DVDR mode but it's set to 3X by it's firmware. And you cannot alter that firmware in a soft-modded Wii.

So the only thing that can be done for booting up ISOs with softmodded Wii is to make the loader better coded. It won't change the speed or load times but it make it more efficient?

Also about the mess with Wanikonko (sp?), he took preexisting code and added 10% of his own to do this?

I can understand your frustration to having your code stolen blatantly and the credit not being given as well, isn't this all open source development for the Wii Homebrew community?

To be perfectly clear, if his projects weren't so successful due to their nature, you wouldn't be making such a big deal. You would still label him as incompetent but not to this extent.

He deserves credit if nothing else for the ISO Loader. The very same ISO Loader you shun and refuse to make your own. That is arrogant and I'm very happy he had the balls to do something you refuse. Be it morally or because Nintendo would kill the homebrew scene, he did something you wouldn't do. And I commend him for that.

He would get more credit if he didn't steal it, but he still did what none of you would want to do. If you're angry at that, you have no one else to blame but yourselves for being beaten to the punch.

tldr; Wanikonko is in the wrong and is obviously a thief from your statements, but you guys are arrogant asses as well.

I think there's a difference between "I will not comment on the issue because I do not support piracy" and "Yes, I could do better, I once contemplated how to do it. A, B and C suck about the current loader, and I actually know ways these could be improved." It's very interesting to read, but at the same times makes you really upset.

I understand it must be satisfying, and pirates ARE a threat to the homebrew scene, no doubt about that, but still. I don't think that justifies how these comments make people feel who really long for a proper ISO player. Even if this longing is immoral and "wrong".

I don't understand why sceners are so against piracy. With the minimal amount of people that will actually do this, no one will care. Piracy doesn't kill a console, and it also doesn't kill homebrew. Games are too expensive these days. $10 for an N64 game? $5 for an NES game? come on. I have already bought these games, so why should I pay for them again? Also, there hasn't been a game worth paying money for for the Wii in a long time. I have a mod chip, but I still buy the games I feel are worth it. Piracy isn't immoral. Charging people rediculous fees apparently isn't immoral either. Anyways, good luck with this backup loader and I hope to see an HDD loader in the future.

Some people here would kill for a backup loader with perfect compatibility, that's why teasing them is so funny

As for marcan's answer, this no arrogance, just call this developper's ego: I can understand that marcan can be pissed with all this noise around each waninkoko "new" release, all these people venerating their god because it allowed them to have free "stuff" on their Wii, when obviously all what he did was putting some piece of marcan (or others)'s code together, which nobody really care

At second thought, I think that the most annoying is probably false rumors and misinformations which are spreading around this wii "scene"

nyrol, please don't start the piracy-debate again. People like marcan have every right to scorn pirates. I too have a story or two why my piracy isn't "bad" piracy, but that doesn't change anything, nor does it matter.

Exactly. However I rather him say "I don't support Wii piracy" than boasting about his ability to outdo someone who at least put something together that works. Even if it was stolen as blatant as it was, you shouldn't belittle their efforts and then claim you can do much better without putting up. That would of course work against their morals so why not just say the obvious. They don't support the piracy, not "If we were, we can do a so much better job" and in the end it works against them, as I rather see more people doing ISO Loaders just out of spite.
