Not really. It calms the animal down, in most cases allows them to live longer, and it takes away their tendency to be horny. Also, if your animal gets out of the house, it can't reproduce, which would cause less strays, and cause less animals on the side of the road.
When we got our male cat, after a few weeks, he would spend all his time trying to hump the other cats, to the point that he would attempt to hump our large stuffed animal in the shape of a cat. Since we got him fixed, he has calmed down, and the other cats don't hate him.
Overall, in most animals, it raises their quality of life when they are indoors.
De-clawing cats on the other hand isn't recommended
