I try not to make a thread unless I have done lots of research and still have no clue which would be the easiest best solution. For the most part I think Wii-Clip but not really sure which mod chip to go with it. I have looked at the D2Pro9 some. And a few others and my head is just spinning. I am not great at picking out one item over another and I need help limiting it down.

Ok,well I am planning to get a wii, in the next week or two and of course I am going to mod it. But I can not figure what would be the best mod chip for me, and where to purchase.

What I want in a mod chip:
Easy to install preferably no Soldered (No soldering skills and do not want to ask someone else) required so I figure Wii-Clip with a pre soldered chip on.
Under 100$ which should not be a problem.
The Ability to play most if not all Wii and Gamecube game backups.
Must work in the newest model Wii as I am sure that is what I will be getting
Easy to update for future games not working.

What I do not want in a chip:
Something that can easily brick the system.

I have looked at a few comparison charts but none seem to have the D2Pro on them.

For the most part I have looked at modchipcentral.com for the chips.

Well afaik there are only D2Pro and D2Sun left, at least I can't think of any other chip. The Wasabi works with all drives, too but even with the Wii-Clip you would have to solder one wire.

I've had a good experience with the d2pro9 v3+wiiclipv4 so far. I bought it kinda blindly because I didn't have a tri-wing screwdriver to find out which chip i had but I figured it was probably d2c/d2c2/d2e since my wii was recently purchased. d2e chip should be the newest version as of this posting in the US. didn't require any soldering for me at least.

It was a pretty simple install, follow pictures on web guide to open, push chip onto board, close up the drive, insert a disc of your own region, and then start using your Wii normally.

I recommend WiiKey. One of the main reasons is for the updates are a Hell of a lot easier. With the WiiKey, download the update, burn it to a DVD and it's done. With the D2Pro9, you have to open your Wii, connect cables to this and that...Wiikey is a lot easier, and it's a great chip.

Thanks Livin in a box, anyone else want to confirm that WiiKey is the better option? :-)

Edit:
Wait that probably would not work unless, I have an older wii as I am buying one soon. It will probably be D2E, correct?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been hearing. If you had a d2b or lower drive, wii-key seemed to be the most popular option. But support for the chip seems to have ended at d2b. However, with the d2c and above chips, there are fewer options. I bought my Wii in the US in July from Amazon and the chipset was d2c2. I've heard of people in the US receiving d2e drives now though.

I haven't personally tried Aragon or d2sun (I think they may both support d2e), but I have had good results with d2pro9 v3.

Even though I did buy the d2prog unit to update the firmware, everything went smoothly. major firmware changes are done via d2prog+usb mini cable and smaller changes (e.g. game compatibility changes) are done via DVD

I would say Wiikey as well, but you won't be finding a wiikey compatible system if you're buying it new. In which case, I would recommend the d2pro although I personally feel it is a hastle to update and all. Modchip central sells a presoldered d2pro with wiiclip for like $75. I got my d2pro from them and it's pretty nice. Authentic clip, easy installation, nothing more to ask for. However, I do not like the whole d2prog mess.

I think I either got a D2C or D2C2, based on http://www.wiidrives.com

Is the older version of D2Pro9 better then the newer? Or is there real no difference?

So I am thinking even with a D2C system, options are as limited as if I had a D2E system?

Just get a D2Pro or D2Sun with the corresponing clips soldered on... like I said ten posts ago.

They work with all drives, so no problem there.
