hello...

we have discussed about a few things about translation and so we've come to make a new translation patch : Tales of the tempest !

I guess this will be the place where we will discuss about translating the game and i don't know if its okay with the other 3 but probably we are going to give a link to the patch here so that you will enjoy the game too

Everyone that will be good of service will be welcome to help

There is'nt much news yet but... you'l hear from us !!!

In addition, we are also still welcoming any contributions or help from anyone experienced with Romhacking or even just anyone who just wants to help for fun.

Tales of the Tempest is another game in the Tales series, the first installment for nds, and is the first Tales game for handhelds that is 3-d. It's hardly the most popular game in the series, however it is still a fun game and any Tales fan would welcome it with open arms.

We intend to do a complete menu translation, and then probably move on to a complete script translation.

As this project is rather large scale since all Tales games have notoriously large scripts, this project may take several months as although we do have experience with romhacking, none of us are Japanese speakers which may make this project somewhat harder if we're working off the comparing the translation script and the hexcode.

Any contributions would be welcome.
Thank you and let's hope for the best!

Have you had a look on gamefaqs to see if there is a walkthrough for this game with any script entries or item details, also many items will be the same as on the other tales games.

This game is not very good, that's why it haven't been released outside of Japan( because of this game sales, ToI isn't going to be released oustside of Japan). Beside this game is old, just find a translation guide or something, I remember there is one.

we know it's not an amazing game, but we're all looking for romhacking and translation experience, and a nice giant, humongous rpg is a good challenge. a bit over the top, but we need to satisfy our egos as well. if you have any other suggestions for projects we should undertake, feel free to suggest, but i don't know if my colleagues would agree. it's their call. i just want to translate somehting.

ok...so 12philips12, mishydishy, if you guys still want to do this despite what those guys said, i'm all for it. i don't really care what i'll be doing 'cuz i'm just here for experience. if you really like Tales games, then i guess this one's the only one to do, since innocence is already 78% done(i think).
your call, guys.

this game wasn't amazing in the slightest, it isn't a long story what so ever, if you do decide to translate this game it shouldn't be as hard as some other rpgs, and i think it's mostly text based rather than graphics so that should make it somewhat easier
i recall completing this game in 14 hours ...
but it would be nice to have another tales game translated ^^
and it would be nice to see what they were talking about ;p

i wish you good luck

I don't mean to repeat an already established point, but I am also curious as to why you have chosen to pick up this game as opposed to others that deserve an English translation more. It's your project, though.

Thanks, but I already e-mailed xcomp, he said a lot of people were asking for a patch from him, but he doesn't have the time, so we can go ahead and attempt it.
As for why I chose it: I love the Tales of series, I've played almost every single one. I want to be able to play tempest as a tales game that should be enjoyed. It has an excellent story, so I want to integrate that for english speakers. According to xcomp and my knowledge of the Tales of fanbase, I expect that a lot more people want a patch for this game.
So, the actual TRANSLATING is done, from xcomp, I just got a bunch of books from the book store about programming, and I'm gonna practice some translating. I expect this to take a long time, and I mean a VERY long time, but I'm all for it.
One also has to understand that we have no expierience, so, like I said, going to take a while.
I"m all for it, but I"m starting class soon, so I might not have much time. I'll work on it when I can.

ok...so it's decided, we're going to translate tales of the tempest.

although we do have the script, in order to make the tables we are going to need to use some translators, but i guess babelfish should be enough to match the script to the hex.
we will definitely need japanese word processors, unless if your computer already has one, i just downloaded one and it seems to be working fine...
if there is any need to use Java or to make any type of application, i'm your man, unless if you're better than me at programming...
personally, i will get to work on trying to make a table. i figured out how to work it, it's just that Japanese is a complete foreign language to me so i'm just using NJstar for that...
if possible, could you guys please try to learn as much about hex editing as you can, and then get started on trying to make a table. once we get the table, we can maybe take some screenshots and hope for some more experienced help.
if you need the rom, i can't tell you unless if you give me your e-mail address. google it.
as for an emulator for testing, no$gba is the way to go, unless if you've got a flashcard and a really fast usb port.
which hex editor you use doesn't really matter, i don't think.
i'm using translhextion just 'cuz it has the open partially function which makes it possible for me to relative search without blowing my computer up.

Aww crap...either my computer's demented, or the text is compressed. i can't do anything about that so i guess the project's off...in case if it's just my 10 year old computer, can someone else check if it's compressed? open it up in a tile editor and see if you can't find the fonts...

checked out a couple of the .mes files and the text doesnt seem to be compressed
(file opened in windhex with standard sjis table, dumped to .txt file, opened in njstar
and translated with lingoes translator) and it comes out perfectly readable so im guessing its your pc
having having a tantrum lol
