Is it possible to share a .SAV file with two .NDS files?
I want both the FFIV with english voiceovers and the FFIV with Japanese voiceovers to share the same save file.
I'm not sure if this is possible though...
Is it?

Not easily, as they both have to have the same name. You would have to move the save around, depending on what cart you have.

You can, but as it is usually NDSname.sav, both ROMs would need to be NDSname.nds, which wouldn't work in the same folder...

So you would have to swap round the ROMs each time you wanted to switch.

But you know how some save files (for me anyways) are like: FINALF~1.SAV, right?
Since it (Supercard DS ONE) takes the first six letters/digits in the name and adds a number (sometimes),
what if I have the files like this:

English --- > Final Fantasy IV.NDS
Undubbed---> Final Fantasy IV2.NDS

Would that work? (Since they both have the first 6 characters)
Or does the "Final Fantasy IV2.NDS" just create a new save file with a different name?

+1 to the names comments but I sense this may be ones of those "unable to see the forest for the trees" type of situations.

Most carts I have seen tend to go by name of the rom and/or rom id (usually to generate a name for the save) so surely it is just a case of putting a hacked rom in a different folder to the original (or vice versa) for the name and for the rom id carts it should not matter.
I have not been following the undubbing of FF4 but I doubt it is much more than a file swap perhaps with a bit of tweaking of the file(s) en route which means the binary and consequently save unchanged and the rom id is unchanged).

Just make a copy of the main save and rename it to the other rom's name. I've done it a bunch. Don't forget to copy the save back and forth when you switch roms though.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do so. An undub is just the original USA game with the audio files replaced, in this case they were replaced for the files of the Japanese version. However, you may have to rename your ROM to the same name of the .sav to use both. I've done this before with PS2 games and the saves worked fine, but I'm not sure if it is the same process for the DS.

In the older M3s (CF & SD), IIRC there was a way to designate a particular save location for each game in the game manager after you converted it, so by putting in the address of the same file you could effectively have 2 games running the same save, but I haven't seen an option like it in any of the newer cards.

Most Carts actually have more tyhan one folder for Roms, but have a specific for the saves.
That thought first crossed my mind with Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
I'm using a CycloDS, and thought about trying it. Easy way, have it in two folders, obviously using the folders as the original names and the file as whatever you want.
(e.g.: PKMNDIAMOND\pkmndp and PKMNPEARL\pkmndp, with save folder being SAVES\)
This for a fact works on the CycloDS (talking about Firmware 1.4Final or higher. I'm using 1.51 Beta with no beef) and most likely the Crappy-Doo R4DS... but the R4 is an assumption. Mine's been slagged for more than a year and since the CycloDS, I haven't even bothered.

I know on the M3, the save is only found if the file name is exactly the same for the rom and the save file (not counting extensions).

So... In the olden days, the slot 2 cards used *.ds.gba file extension rather than .nds. I'm not sure if that still works on slot one cards, but if you gave them the exact same name, differentiated only by the extension, you could play both while not worrying about any data errors from equivalent filenames.

Therefore, you'd have three files... X.nds, X.ds.gba, and X.sav

the majority of flash carts actually dump the save file into the game folder, but the cyclo alt-saving is a good idea to realize this
