I think you're right, ravagekd (that the worst of the issue has probably passed) but if you're thinking of getting an AK2, you may want to wait a few days until Searinox has finished his analysis and see if he can confirm whether dealextreme is likely to have gone through all of the bad AK2 inventory by now.

It would also be interesting to hear what dealextreme has to say about it. Has anyone posted anything on there or sent them e-mail to see if you can find additional information? It would seem to be in their best interest to return defective stock to Acekard and get good replacements if they are able to narrow down which carts are likely to be bad.

Just looked, and someone states that orders after June 10th should be OK (don't know what that user bases the date on though). Also says that Acekard has proactively removed bad inventory from stores (again, don't know if this is true). It doesn't look like dealextreme has issed any kind of a statement about whether or not current inventory is bad or whether they sent bad inventory back to the factory. I'm going to e-mail them and see if they respond.

i'm away on holiday and everyone who watches me playing some homebrew on my nds is asking how i do it. i ordered 2 ak2s for 2 12yr olds just before starting this thread. i was a bit worried that i might have made a bad pick and wanted to hear what others had experienced. the cards were ordered on the 13th of june, received around the 18th and set up on 20th. i threw on some homebrew (colors, quake, doom, dsnotes) and a handful of various roms the kids requested. both cards booted up fine, and played roms/homebrew with no issues. i used the "retail" firmware (if it is called that) for ease of use as far as 12yr olds are concerned. i'll be on holiday for a bit longer and in contact with the kids so i'll post back if a problem arises.

Tanas your report is the most disturbing of all because you placed the order on the day that I recieved mine. Though unofficial, I can confirm that the latter bad batches seem to produce FAT ERROR instead of freezing on "processing...". In face I have seen a drop in number of "processing" freeze reports and an increase in FAT ERROR reports, which were virtually none-existant until 2 weeks ago. Also, the majority of reports are coming from DX customers.

I'm not sure if this means that there are STILL bad batches but it certainly means that first came the processing freezes and then came the FAT ERRORs. I am seeing incidental recent "processing" freezes amongst the longest-lived of bad batch carts which are only now breaking down.

Just to be on the safe side, I will ask DX to refund me, so that I may wait until I figure the time is right to buy one. I trust Team Acekard on having fixed the problem though loathe them for not providing info or fixes. On the other hand, I do not yet trust DX on having bailed out all of the carts...

EDIT: That racket should become the official symbol for broken AK2s. It may have been made for an off purpose since it was supposed to be a pun on the "bat batch" but it is a racket, however, it reflects its meaning quite well - a cartridge which does not serve its original purpose, something more akin to a primitive tool for hitting stuff rather than an electronic piece of hardware.

i was working for a store that had a high turnover of AK2's and we had 2 consecutive batches of bad AK2's to the point where we refused to stock them till they get there shit together.

having said that speaking to the AK team, they dont actually know the full problem with the carts.
it is a major problem, 2 batches. 1 of the known bad batch 1 of the "fixed" batch both had a 90-95% failure rate.

and these are customers who dont know how to skin/cheat edit for the most part

If what you're saying is true then I think I'll just ask for a refund add another $44 to it and just buy a goddamn Acekard RPG, those don't fail. The one thing failing is them. I am through with AK2.

I recently ordered a AK2 as well. I placed my order on June 11, and received it on June 18.

So far it seems to be doing fine. The only problems I've been having is that some games won't load. I get a white screen right after I select the game. The two games I've tried that had that problem were Puyo Pop (U) and Super Monkey Ball (U). When I load up the (E) european version it works and will load the game.

Hmm what else. When I try to run homebrew apps like DS Organize, and JLPT, after a couple minutes of use it freezes. I'm not sure if it is the card or my SD Card. I bought the 4 GB Kingston (class 4) from DX as well.

Oddly enough, I can run Castlevania POR. Occasionally in the middle of the game it will freeze. But other times it seems to work fine.

Other games I've tried seem to work fine so far (ie. animal crossing, kirby canvas curse, etc)

And I'm new to handhelds and flash carts. So this is my first ever. But I've been learning alot from reading thru the forums. Thanks alot guys. Hopefully I can learn some more about what's up with my flash cart and microSD

i tried to update the cheat file lastnight on one of the two ak2s i ordered. i dropped the new cheat file on the msd and booted it up and got the "FAT Error" in big bold blue letters. i formatted the msd and dropped the firmware back on and all seems fine. not sure what i did to cause it or if this is a warning to what might be in the future for these two kits.

It could've just been bad contact between your microSD/microSDHC and the Ak2.

hello all,I've been lurking on these forums for about a month now and just created an account, but I'll get to the topic:I bought an AK2 may 29 and recieved it 10 of june SO FAR its worked like a dream. no glitches or freezes on ANY game I've thrown at it on my 2GB A-Data from Newegg.com.Just figured I throw out a little reassurance for anyone that unknowingly ordered one.....

My AK2 has been working fine so far, I got the FAT error but only once. I popped the microSD card out and haven't seen it since. I've been alternating between two different 2gb micros, a sandisk and a PNY, and both have been working fairly error free. Ordered just about the same time as GBAtemp's quiz contest started. KickGaming sent it out

. Hopefully that helped someone.

Something completely unrelated to a bad Flashcard/MicroSD,I found that by putting AKRPG Specific themes on my AK2 it froze at the menu.I haven't seen any posts about this around here(forgive me if they're there) but instead of formatting my MicroSD I simply Renamed a working theme to match that of the AKRPG theme and deleted the real folder.Again,I don't know if anyone has had this problem or not(maybe I'm just a stupid n00b

),but other newbies to the AK2 may have had this problem, and this just seems to be a better option than reformatting the whole microSD card.

Just read that Acekard has 1 year warranty, so I feel a bit better about my purchase, which is working strong after a month.

You can also just open the globalsettings.ini file in the \__AK2\ folder and specify a working theme.

i can confirm that not only dx have these problems, we got a lot of loading processing error, and FAT error .
and these stock only of june, i advice to buy other cards for now. defective stock seems very high . people can use the acekard without problems for 2/3 weeks and found it defective. at initial test is not possible to find these defective.

bye
