xD I like to help, but I've already explained all that.

And the tools I use, they are from the Revolution SDK, as you said. The U8 packer and the TPL converter are from there.
The info on WiiBrew was completely useless to me. It's out of date and doesn't explain properly how things really are. I guess it'll get updated once marcan releases his fantastic tool for banner editing.

Oh, and I respect Team Twiizers a LOT. They have done a great job in all this.

Who's to say Jay couldn't release an untested channel and brick someone's Wii?
That being the reason he risks his own console , and providing us with screenshots and such to show what it is , does and looks like

At least if I were to post a guide, someone could decide whether or not they want to trust it before they blindly install it.
Sure a tutorial gives you an option to follow it or not, and test it knowing the risk but , I only see JayParadox method as limiting the risk for the end user.

I was referring to the fact that Nintendo developed the kit to easily make decode and make banners. While that might not be what he's using, it is something that apparently got leaked.
If that was all he was using, why not make that clear and "get everyone off his back"?
So you are actually stating that someone should release the source before knowing it is user proof ... ever thought about the concern many authors put in something they release ?
They have to put themselves in the shoes of the end user to try and keep their users safe of harm. Thats more or less what JP is doing. Protecting people form themselves.

QUOTE(teq @ May 16 2008, 02:22 AM) So you would be comfortable with someone keeping your intellectual property a secret and using it to make it seem like it was of their own conception?
When did JP ever state he was using a self created tool for this ?
Further if the output of a file normally is a or b and someone is capable of making z come out wouldn't you appreciate that if z was something which helped you ?
I understand you would question the how but wouldn't you first be thankfull for what was created.

QUOTE(teq @ May 16 2008, 02:22 AM)
Furthermore, I have yet to see him credit ANYONE.

Has anyone made any progress on decompressing the banner.bin yet? JP, any suggestion? You must know a way.

WiiBrew posted a Python script that is supposed to unpack the banner files, which are LZ77.

It's a pain to use and I hate the formatting of Python, though...

As I said earlier in the thread, the script is yielding errors for reasons beyond my understanding.

and instead of making it the end users decision and being a good sport he decides to for a while now not release info little tidbits here and there dont help
where not asking him for brain surgery here jsut asking to share knowlege he says he usees a disc he created so he will not to brick the wii ...how did he do it share a little
how are you using the tools as they do not come with instructions lol

if he is not holding back the info because he is worried about people taking his spotlight and is only worried about peoples wii's then release the info and let them worry about there own wii

POINT THE LONGER HE WAITS THE MORE HE LOOKS LIKE A BIG BUTTTTT to say it nicely...on side note I know many people like his releases morre power to them ...but woudlnt you rather do your own?????

First of all, thanks for your your great Banners JP. I understand that it's probably too dangerous to release a public tool for now, but could you give me the file specifications for the pictures and music?

I'm a BIG Secret of Mana fan and would love to have a channel of it, however the only channel released of it shows up as DC2. I'm not bad at Photoshop and Audio Editing software so I could provide you with nice pictures and music for a SoM channel so you would just need to inject them if you would be so nice and make one.

there are some tools out, for example gbalzss, u must remove the IMD5 Header and the "LZ77" to get it to work
just use this command to unpack these files:

gbalzss.exe d banner.bin banner.arc
gbalzss.exe d icon.bin icon.arc

they are normal U8 files, or better the real name "arc" files, to unpack them don't use any custom tool, they don't work fully, you will need darchD.exe from Wii SDK.

it's not dangerous, he has no tool, i released a tutorial on banner making on a german forum

the Picture is a normal Gamecube TPL file, for correct converting use tplx.exe from GCube emu, to reconvert it you will need TCSEdit.exe and TexConv.exe from Wii and GC SDK
for the sound you will need to extract samples and then convert it, its a standard GC format.

don't ask me how to get this tools, and don't ask for a tutorial, my english is not good enough to explain it.

Thanks a load for that info. But, one correction I discovered, you only remove UP TO the "LZ77", but that should stay in the file for darcD to recognize it. I successfully unpacked the archive like that. Now I'm going to work on it, and if I get it working, I'll gladly write a tutorial later.

i can't, the rules here does not allow it.

@neonix
as i sayed,
QUOTEu must remove the IMD5 Header and the "LZ77" to get it to work
this means, cut the first 36 Byte.

and use this gbalzss:
http://www.gbadev.org/tools.php?showinfo=56
then it should work.

when you use the "old" gbalzss, you must leave this "LZ77", then it should work, but you are not able to recompress it.

Ah, thanks for that link, I wasn't sure if gbalzss was a legal app or not.

Gah, I have everything figure out, even have most of this tut typed up, and getting some pics for it.

But I'm stuck at how to reinsert TGA's back into .tpl files. Teh gewglez is not helping with this, but maybe with a little more searching and digging.

Heh heh, I've already searched the internet quite thuroughly for a TPL repacker, and as far as I can tell, the only option currently available is by using the leaked gamecube/wii sdk.

On a somewhat happier note, Marcan will be realeasing all of his banner related tools once the homebrew channel is released, so I figure i'll just wait on that.

If someone gives me the German Tutorial, I would translate it into English for everyone.

I got hold of the SDK, and I'm trying to figure out how to use this tpl tool, but I can't find proper syntax for it in the documentation.

It's good to hear Marcan is going to share his stash, but why wait? :/

you have to modify the script file (sample.tcs), everything is pretty well explained inside, you have to put the path of the .tga file in there then call the following command line:
TexConv sample.txt sample.tpl

otherwise, the .tpl format is a wellknown format (http://hitmen.c02.at/files/yagcd/yagcd/chap15.html#sec15.35)
as I said before, converting 24bits bitmap data into RGB565 data is easy

the other parameters:

CODE
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ4 ÂÂÂÂoffset to Texture Data
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ4 ÂÂÂÂwrap s
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ4 ÂÂÂÂwrap t
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ4 ÂÂÂÂmin filter
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ4 ÂÂÂÂmag filter
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ4 ÂÂÂÂlod bias (float value)
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ1 ÂÂÂÂedge lod
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ1 ÂÂÂÂmin lod
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ1 ÂÂÂÂmax lod
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ1 ÂÂÂÂunpacked

are mostlty texture parameters (to control texture mipmap filtering, anisotropic, trilinear or bilinear filtering)
I think they could be copied from an existing .tpl file, give it a try
otherwise, you could use default value (see into gx.c from libogc or in the SDK GX documentation)
