Cheers man.
Now, the results for week 1 will be posted shortly, both ladders.
There were only a few forfeit wins given out, with a few more forfeit losses. Basically, it works as follows:
Forfeit win: 2-1. You'll gain this, if proven you contacted your opponent early in the week, and they didn't turn up to a match, or ignored you completely.
Forfeit loss: 0-3. You'll gain this, if you skipped a planned match, or never bothered to organize your match despite an opponent contacting you.
We chose to go with a 2-1 win for Forfeit wins, due to a few people thinking a 3-0 win might be too much, given it only takes 2 points to win a match. It changes the team points slightly given the winner gets 2-1, but does not give players wins who decided to try and be dodgy. Again, the 1 loss for the forfeit winning player, doesn't really affect anything, it's just a basic stat.
We will be replacing 2-3 players this week. I am hoping to do this tomorrow, so as not to disadvantage those playing said opponents.
Piepants will be replaced with tredes.
Can those who have Piepants on their lists, please delete him, and add tredes instead, if you haven't added him already. (He's listed on the league listing) The reason we're asking you to delete those not on the league, or tourney listing, is so we don't run out of room in the future, as your friend list can only be 30 big.
Ozmodchips and Boxhunter will be dropped from the league, and hoping everyone can delete them as well. Boxhunter promised game times he never held, and made excuses as to why he wasn't available when he was. I will be sorting out their replacements over the coming days. It has come to my attention, that Boxhunter copied our league names, A-LEAGUE, B-LEAGUE, our Team names, Red Lightning became Blue Lightning, Blue Shells became Red Shells and so on, and has made his own copycat league elsewhere. I'm all for everyone playing MK however they want, but i hate people directly copying other peoples ideas, especially down to the level of unoriginality that is seen in boxhunters attempts at plagiarism.
Other than that, we had 13 players who all played at least 1 match/3 races, 9 players who played all their matches/6 races, while 3 players, who played no matches/6 races.
So getting 13 players having competed after the first week, i'm pretty happy with. All leagues, tournaments, online can run into problems, and can be hard to find the right group of people to play with overall.
There will always be people who put their name down for things, but can't be stuffed, or believe they are too busy, or will DC if they look like losing. But, for the most part we seem to have a fairly good group of people together, and we just have to find a few more people willing to take 15-30 mins a week to have a race.
I was around the 360 scene for a long time running and participating in leagues, and it is a way of keeping games that usually will grow old, get 100 times more replay value than you'd ever get just racing someone randomly online. We've got a 1v1 situation so it makes the game much different from the usual worldwide/continental races you find online, but we also have the teams set up to give each player something to be a part of, and finally, our tournaments so that if your not so good in the 1v1, or your unlucky in it, you might find you go better when it comes to 4-12 player GPs.
Down the track, if we can get a good community together, i think we could have a fantastic, fun and competitive environment.
Things to note:
After season 1, adjustments will be made to the league format, if only slightly.
If we can build up a successful and willing community, i will look into building a website, buying a domain name etc.
If that happens, we could have an entire Australian Wii League Community. We would be one of the only pure league set ups worldwide, dedicated purely to league/tourney gaming on the Wii. Games could expand to include stuff like Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Strikers, PES 2008 etc. I've run leagues with Prize set ups in the past for xbox 360, including prizes for the winners of the Table Tennis leagues from Microsoft Australia themselves. Down the track, i could potentially see this happening as well with the Mario Kart, and possibly Smash Bros aussie leagues.
For that to work, and for us to end up having something along those lines, means we need people to show a little effort, interest, and to just be able to put in, in some way or another. If it means putting your name up to host a mario kart night of GPs and Battles, that can make a difference, if its to help out with the league, even better.
Final note, i will be setting up a Mario Kart GP room, at 8pm AEST, Mon/Tue/Wed nights this week. If your online, come into the room, and have some GPs, Team GP's, and some Balloon Battles with myself and others from the league, just have some good fun with our small community, the more the merrier.
