So I recently unboxed my old WII to play some games with the kids. I originally jailbroke it 12+ years ago. I updated the jailbreak and put the latest versions of the usual applications.

I ran into a curiosity. None of my original virtual console games I bought off the Nintendo store work after updating the jailbreak. All I get is a black screen when I try to run them. I deleted them and reinstalled. Didn't work. I tried to research this out, but I couldn't find any solution. I saw a Redit post with someone claiming the same issue, but I didn't see a resolution.

Other than those virtual console games, everything else works fine.

Any ideas?

I'll give it a try! Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know as soon as I get back to my WII. The job just sent me traveling away from the office so it'll be a few days

The only way I can make this scenario make sense in my head, is if the content were originally pirated/fakesigned, then moved to the sd menu. They would have continued to work assuming a patched system menu ios were installed, but then when the system menu was officially updated the system menu ios would probably have been updated as well. And then a stock system menu ios would no longer be able to load fakesigned content that had previously been moved to the sd card menu.

Only problem with this interpretation is that OP says he got them via official means and also reinstalled them.

Thought I'd share my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth 😂

Edit: could it be a video mode issue maybe? Just brainstorming, I kinda doubt it

I definitely obtained them officially, before I originally jailbroke my WII.

My WII was my first ever jailbreaking project, primarily because I wanted to play Goonies II and it wasn't available on the storefront. In the process my eyes were opened with what emulation can do.

When I mentioned that I tried reinstalling, I deleted my original installs and tried replacing them with some....acquired backups

For anyone following this thread, I figured out the issue. It's a video issue and has nothing to do with my virtual console games. I can't get them to display properly still, but I explored different display settings. The screen flickers in and out some of the combinations, but I can see a game running as the screen comes in and out. I'm content with at least knowing where the problem is. I'm not hell bent on fixing it

I've also found that the issue effects FCEUX, unless I set the WII to 4:3 and standard definition
