I installed the Daybreak installer during the original Switch jailbreaking process, and now I need to update my Switch's firmware, because 20.5.0 came out (not sure if I need to update Atmosphere or Hekate).

So, how in the garsh darn diddly darn do I install Daybreak?

The installer keeps asking for an update directory.

You should update Atmosphere yes, and it includes the latest Hekate does not include Hekate so you'll need to update that too. If your current version of Atmosphere (and Hekate) don't support your firmware version, it'll refuse to boot into emunand.

You need to download the firmware manually (I'm not sure if any current hb app downloads it, I don't do this) and extract it to a directory on your SD card. Then, within Daybreak, select the directory containing your extracted firmware files.

Atmosphere does not include Hekate. They are separate and you need to update both. As was stated, Daybreak is asking for the location of a Switch FW update.

Thanks. My mistake was that it's bundled with hbl and hbmenu! D'oh!

I used the sysCFW method (forgot to mention that).

But why? Why didn't you set up emuMMC? Regardless, you still need to update Atmosphere and Hekate after you update your FW.
I don't have a large enough SD card.
Also, I know I have to update Atmosphere and Hekate. I'm not mentally impaired, thank you.

Also, I just checked Hekate's and Atmosphere's GitHub pages, and it doesn't seem like they've released any updates yet.

So long as you have Atmosphere 1.9.5 and Hekate 6.3.1 you're fine. Atmosphere was updated about 3 weeks ago and Hekate 5 months ago, so if you went through the process of setting up CFW anytime prior to those dates and haven't updated, you'll need to update accordingly.

I did the jailbreaking process earlier this month.

I was just asking ffs. Where did I insinuate you're mentally impaired? If you took things that way it's a reflection of you, not of me. And yes, Atmosphere was updated to support 20.5.0 so if you updated from a lower fw, you in fact need to update Atmosphere. Perhaps not as "not mentally impaired" as you think you are. Just sayin, since you wanted to be rude for no reason.

You really don't want to I would caution you to even use it it's a dangerous app don't use it okay trust me I used it to downgrade my o f w and everything got f***** up this is not a good app I'm caution people using this app you won't have a switch after you use this trust me especially if you don't know how to use it in the first place which I did and I accidentally f***** up my ofw

I use Daybreak for the firmware to downgrade my switch and it messed up my switch I have a black screen now it's no good please don't let people use this app it's not a great app I think the developer needs to stop with this and do something else to help the mod community I will never use Daybreak ever again and you have to know what you're doing the first place a lot of newbies screw up like me using Daybreak is not a good thing if you don't know what you're doing I was following something on YouTube and I decided to downgrade my firmware what a big mess well anyway the seller that I bought it from I returned it told me it was a battery issue which was in the first place

I always just update the sysnand and then dump the sysnand update using tegraexplorer.

if you don't know how to use it in the first place
You clearly did not

I was following something on YouTube
NEVER use Youtube videos for things like that

I decided to downgrade my firmware what a big mess
You used Daybreak to do something that was never intended from Nintende: downgrade the firmware. You should expect issues. The problem is not with Daybreak but that the new firmware changed something in the Switch that will not work with older formwares.

Daybreak is THE app to upgrade the firmware on EmuMMC, it is not a 'dangerous app'. Just use it wisely
