I've searched and searched and still haven't found a clear cut winner. I had an order for the R4 kit from DealExtreme.com for over 2 months and they still haven't re-stocked it, so I cancelled it and now am looking around again.

I'm basically asking for people's opinion/help on selecting a new card. There are soooo many Slot 1 cards out there that it makes it hard for someone new to figure out what they want.

Here is what I'm looking for in a card:

1. Able to play all games (if not, almost all) and save games
2. Gets updated often
3. I want to be able to use a browser. Been reading that I need a Slot 2 card for more ram
4. Able to use Download-Play (Don't care about not being able to communicate with the Wii on games like Pokemon and such)
5. Able to run homebrew applications
6. Don't need it to play GBA games
7. Playing videos/music would be nice
8. SDHC card compatibility isn't a big big concern, but it would be nice as well

I don't know if I'm asking for a lot but I haven't really found a card that can do all these, or maybe I haven't been searching enough. In either case, please let me know which card would be best for me. Please no cheap shitty cards that rarely ever get updated or have no more support after their release.

Thanks in advanced for all the help.

Acekard 2?

I hear good things about it.

And the EDGE DS because its a clone of the CycloDS which is good.

R4 is a subpar card compared to what's available today.

What about using a browser? Do I need a slot 2 card for additional ram?

yeah the gba expansion pak
im pretty sure all browsers ( no matter the brand of flash carts) need an additional ram
(cept for homebrew, but you need a computer connection or something)

Well in all truth I use my Cyclo Evo and EZFlash 3 in 1.
My wife uses a R4.
We have an M3 Real, M3 Lite, EZFlash V, M3 Simply,max media dock,DSTT,
I love my Cyclo wife loves R4.
And to everyone that says R4 is dead my wife boots faster and loads roms and homebrew faster
on her R4 than I do on mine and she resets faster and on more software without fixing it soooo.....
hope it helps it can be confuseing

The problem is that nearly all carts do what you want (yes, all of them require a slot2 expansion pack to use the Opera browser). All seem to have advantages and disadvantages, so there's no clear winner.

Here are the carts that seem to be recommended the most, along with the most common advantages and disadvantages over other carts.

Acekard 2 - A little flimsy, but has a great menu system. Menu system is similar to the Acekard RPG (made by the same company).

Edge - Has a proprietary cheat database so you can't add your own cheats, but otherwise a very solid cart. It's brand new, so support is unknown. Menu system copies the CycloDS (but it's made by a different company).

DSTT - Doesn't sort in TTMenu and sometimes lags a bit when scrolling, but can run YSMenu (which has neither problem) and is one of the fastest carts around for booting up and loading games.

SCDS1 - Really slow menu, but can run TTMenu and YSMenu from the DSTT. Has lots of "bells and whistles" using its own menu (not available when using the faster TTMenu or YSMenu).

Acekart RPG - Has extra internal memory. Has lots of "bells and whistles." Pricier than most carts.

CycloDS - A little flimsy, but has lots of "bells and whistles." Pricier than most carts.

"Bells and whistles" are features that are probably not that important to everyone such as in-game menu, slow motion, dumping/loading game states (sometimes called real-time saving or RTS), etc.

If you want a budget cart that plays games and homebrew well, look at the first 3 in the list. The SCDS1 is only about $5 more than the budget carts and has the "bells and whistles" like the two more expensive carts (but with a slower menu system). If you care more about bells and whistles than the price, look at the last two in the list and compare features and prices.

It's a no brainer...... SCDS1, best support, best features, most features, no other cart can even come close anymore, not even the cyclo-evo with it's crippled cheat support and lack of features.

People argued a year or so a go when it was up against the R4 and most went for the R4, but as usual the supercard product just keeps going and going and getting better and better support and features. I guess most will go for the cyclo-evo this time too, lets see the situation in a years time eh ? it will be scds1 up against some other new cart without a doubt.

How come a lot more people recommend the CycloDS or the Acekard RPG over the SCDS1? Is it the speed of the menu? Undoubtedly, the SCDS1 is much cheaper (it's only a little more expensive than the Acekard 2, Edge, and DSTT).

No, it's the HYPE. When someone asks for a flashcart, you can always see someone saying something like this: "OMGZ BUY CYCLODS IT OWNZ EVERYTHING EVEN AIR", or "BUY CYCLODS IT WILL EVEN MAEK U MOAR BEAUTIFULZ"
tongue.gif

So everyone now's convinced it's the best. But SCDS One is clearly the winner, with its superior support ("OMGZ CYCLODS FORUMZ ARE SO GRAET") and more functions

As an example, another update for it was just released a while ago

Does the SDSC1 still have a battery? Does it still wait to save until reboot? Does it still use Moonshell as its menu, and does its version of Moonshell still pop up that error message like the regular Moonshell does?

What do you consider the biggest negatives of the SDSC1?

I'm not sure about the battery cause I didn't open it up. I don't know what you mean by wait to save unitl reboot. Yes it does use moonshell, it's the old version but it doesn't have the error anymore.

Slow loading of games is a negative. If they used the new moonshell it might run much faster. I like SDSC cause I like the real time cheat. I can turn off and on the large mario in new super mario bros whenever I want.

Yes, but it's pretty useless now. I believe you can call it an added guarantee to not losing saves

No, it saves in realtime on the .sav, that has been fixed in SP2.0. Yes, it still uses it, but no error.

Maybe only the slow loading time, but with so much functions, that's not so much of a problem

They haven't used a new Moonshell cause Infantile Paralyser asked flashcart makers to not use it anymore (or it was because the new version requires the official SDK which costs big bucks? can't remember now)

Also there's a rumor about a new menu in the working, so if they do something like Sakura, that's fast and with all the SCDS One functions, it will be even better.

If you want a clear cut winning card, get a psp. you don't need a card for all the above options haha
built in browser, play all games, PSP community is community-based (don't need to rely on companies), superior homebrew, gba/ps1/n64/snes/nes/gb/genesis/etcetc emulator (even if you don't need it), videos on bigger widescreen, superior music quality by sony hardware, 4 gig (don't know the max now but should be 8 i think).

^ I can make these statements because I own PSP and DS.

But seriously, when I entered the DS scene, we were only concerned with compatibility. we always had to wait a few days to a week for a new firmware so we can play a new game. It sounds disgusting now, but it was acceptable back then.

I think everyone is putting too much emphasis on the "perfect" cart AND the added 100 bonus (bells and whistles) functions on top of almost 100% compatibility. Not to mention, the need for fastest loading time (even though the extra loading time is insignificant and won't kill you) or the menu is "non-intuitive", "speedy" or have "touch-screen" functions...(you are not retarded - it's not difficulty to choose a rom from a list using D-pad + A button).

There's no "perfect" card out there; all of them works great. Anyone will do.
That's really my opinion and doesn't really help your cause.

Thanks! I've always wondered what the current state of this cart is because the review of it is so old!

I would consider the Moonshell menu to be a negative. It seems to me that if you want to listen to music, you would load up Moonshell and otherwise that the menu should be small and fast. It's too bad you can't get full functionality with TTMenu/YSMenu. Hopefully they will make a new menu for it that supports all the features of the current one.

So is the cart as fast as the DSTT with TTMenu?

I wonder why they didn't make a version without the battery? What happens if/when the battery dies?

I don't know why people are saying the CycloDS is flimsy, it's fine, I've purchased 2 (a 2nd gen White and a 4th gen Black) and haven't had ANY troubles with EITHER. It's just a matter that only those people that have problems bitch about them, so the dozen or so people are complaining while everyone else enjoys it.
I'd recommend that, just based off personal experience. Get that with a 3-in-1 from Real Hot Stuff, ship DHL, the whole thing should be less than $100 if you purchase a 4 gig MicroSD from NewEgg.

Good luck!

Read the thread better, there's no one saying it's not a good card. We were just debating about why the CycloDS Evo it's always "TEH OWNZORZ".
