No-one who didn't see Star Wars, in the cinema, in 1977, can truly appreciate it, as they don't have the correct perspective.
You aren't able to see how it stood out against what else was around at the time.
It's like I'm not old enough, for example, to truly appreciate Psycho ... the original, not the shoddy Vince Vaughan effort ... in the same way that someone who saw it in the cinema, when it first came out, can.
