I paid for my oled to be modded by a professional and now I am being told i need to buy a new motherboard by them. At the start of 2024 I paid a professional shop to have a Instinct-NX v6s installed in my oled, it was installed and he showed images of the hekate menu and was able to use lockpick to find prod keys however the emmc had errors and after install of the modchip and also no longer had the ability to boot into OFW but could still find prod keys. Now current day they say the switch only shows a black screen with and without the modchip installed and are telling me that i need to buy a donor mainboard.

They also noted all connections were perfect when the mod was installed, verified all connections with a multimeter, the switch still takes charge, on the first install of the mod it got a purple screen, mod has had a re-solder, emmc has been re-balled, the mod flickers red and goes white, modchip has been reflashed.

Very confused on this and can't find anything online to help so if anyones got any ideas please let me know! (my bad about the kinda clickbate title I just want my switch back working don't care about the mod anymore)

When they tell you to buy a donor board, basically they say that they cannot fix the original board anymore.
All they will do is swap out the boards and tell you they they have 'fixed' the problem.
Buying a second hand Switch and selling your old Switch for parts might be a cheaper solution.

It sounds like they messed up your emmc pretty badly and the purple screen was already an indication of that.
OLED's sometimes don't play nice with modchips.
In the Picofly thread here, it's often OLEDs that cause issues.
But those can be resolved in most cases with a picofly based modchip.

If you insist on using this OLED, I would look for a good mail-in service and have them take a good look at the current state of the Switch.
The question is to what extend the emmc has been damaged.
For recovery you do need a modchip because without a modchip no tools can be used to recover the emmc.
Best case scenario is a full recovery, worst case scenario is an OLED that can only play offiline.

I hope you do have your prod keys still around because afaik, a emmc can be rebuild with those keys.

There are some really experienced craftsmen in the picofly thread that can maybe help out.
Some of them offer mail-in services but I don't know where you live.

Just ask if your Switch might be recoverable with a PicoFly after some 'professional' ruined it.

Sounds like a very professional "professional".

If I receive a fully working device for modding, it is in my responsibilty to return the customer a fully working device.
And if I'm breaking somehow the device during modding, it is on me to get things right again and not charging my customers for my failure...

Precisely.

OP don't have to pay to receive back a working OLED Switch if she/he delivered a working OLED Switch to the wokshop.

Thank you so much! Looking through the email chain I have asked for the emmc to be rebuilt but seems they forgot, praying they have kept my prod keys if so im happy with an offline switch at this point. If they can rebuild the emmc maybe on a different emmc could work!

When you say they messed up my emmc, is it their fault? They blamed the modchip and also said that the software version on the switch corrupts the emmc on purpose, I did send through the latest firmware for the modchip which is meant to get around this but im not knowledgeable enough to say if its the the professionals fault or the modchips.

I stayed away from the mail-in services because of how bad the UK's shipping is with the amount of Vinted and Ebay items that have just vanished for me it is scary, but if they cannot fix my switch that thread is going to be my last saving grace.

However out of curiosity what amount of money could I get for selling the switch parts? (My oled was kept in a just like new condition and was only a couple months old with a couple games played on it.)

They are incompetent, not professional. I would report them to Nintendo. That way Nintendo can take legal action against them & they won't be able to destroy the hardware/rip off future customers.

these assholes are not professionals. You have been scammed. Any decent modder, myself included, would never fail this badly in the first place - and even if we did, we would replace the switch for you with no additional cost.

We have to see what they have done. lately I have recovered 4 given up for dead, but the problem is always the installer, not the console. I personally do not accept work, especially on OLEDs, if I do not have an emergency spare part ready and tested. Your professional service is outrageous. Don't buy anything. They MUST solve the problem for you.
