I picked up SMA3: Yoshi's Island and SMA4: SMB3 for my GBA collection, and the first thing I want to do is delete the old save data. With SMB3, no problem, just hold SEL, A, B, L, & R on bootup and it prompts w/ option to delete all save data. But that doesn't work on Yoshi's Island, I don't have the official manual & cannot find it online, and sites such as gamefaqs don't seem to address this.

What's the key combo for deleting all data for this cart?

(thanks)

Can't save files be manually deleted on file selection?
If not, well... You could always wipe the save data with GBA_Backup_Tool if you have access to a DS flashcart + DS/Lite.

I've been reading that the game doesn't actually have the option to delete save files. :/

Yes, but on the main menu page where you choose between playing Yoshi's Island or Mario Bros. Classic, there is high score information & 'achievement stars' which are not deleted by erasing save files.

Yeah I have that option. Thanks for the suggestion. Though I feel there has to be a built-in way to do this.

I didn't provide that link. GBATemp did it automatically. It's a Filetrip search thing. (EDIT: got rid of it)

The one you found is the right program.

Lil late, but assuming I'm going through this exact issue how would one go about solving this?

gba backup tool is still available here: https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/GBA_Backup_Tool

And some info about usage is here: https://projectpokemon.org/home/tutorials/save-editing/managing-gba-saves/using-gba-backup-tool-r55/

To use this you need a DSPhat or DSLite - because those are the consoles with both DS and GBA slots. And you need a DS flashcart to run the GBA backup tool from. And you need to be very careful that you're doing the right thing - if you mess up the content on a real GBA cart, that's nobody's problem but yours.

It's been 12 years since I used this so don't ask me for tips, instructions ... I do not recall.

I know this isn't super helpful but I know there IS a button combination for this, I did it myself about a year ago. Will trawl my bookmarks to try and find it.

Pretty sure the d-pad was involved in the combo
