EDIT: For the record, this is a built-in safety measure. Imagine a hypothetical situation wherein the government becomes tyrannical - the citizenry has two means of recourse, uprising or getting their own guy in who will veto whatever tyrannical laws Congress may want to push through. It provides means for oversight and puts the power in the hands of the people - if they want a President who was convicted of a felony, they have the right to vote for them. After all, *if* the government was tyrannical, the first thing they’d do would be convicting all relevant political opponents.
More funny is more better. President Felon has a nice ring to it.
That makes a lot of sense. Although I'm sure the founding fathers didn't foresee a world where a cult-like personality could keep control over his followers using disinformation and lies even in the face of so... much... evidence.

We'll just have to hope that clearer heads prevail. And you're right, it'll definitely be entertaining to see what the GOP does.

Some of the Founding Fathers were considered to be cult-like personalities in their time. I really don’t know why people assume 18th century Americans were somehow unfamiliar with vices, fast progress of technology or other assorted “modern problems”. There’s also the matter of whether citizens actually *care* about a given candidate’s infractions. I didn’t care about Clinton lying under oath about Monica Lewinsky polishing a flagpole in the oval office all that much, but it was technically perjury. Similarly, I don’t really care about Trump concealing financial records in regards to making a hoe leave. As far as the classified records indictment is concerned, I disagree with it in the first place since as Commander-in-Chief Trump had the highest authority in regards to document classification and didn’t need to ask anyone for permission in order to handle them, he could do so anywhere and in the company of anyone, including in the toilet - this is also a power vested in the office of the Presidency outside of any congressional grant (Navy v. Egan). The legal basis here is rather shaky. His only mistake was not leaving a paper trail, but if we interpret the law as it is written, Trump could declassify any document at any time - whatever he says is declassified is in fact declassified. He just didn’t tell anyone, so it’s an unprovable claim.

I wonder how trump's supporters devout followers are going to try to spin this around as a conspiracy theory, those people are quite delusional so we absolutely know they will, I'm just curious as to how.

Lol, no you aren't. Their point of view isn't exactly hidden. Or is it?

I pointed it out earlier, but Trump seems to be doing better in polls whenever he’s indicted or charged with something. As far as his base is concerned, he’s Teflon.
Because he's the only one as depraved as they are, and he gives them permission to be their worst selves. The current polls don't mean a thing though, they'll only matter in the slightest after he's convicted.

UPDATE 1: The documents have been described as nuclear secrets and US military intelligence. Bigly traitor or the BIGLIEST traitor?
Remember about Julius and Ethel Rosenberg? If Trump was in 1950s, he would be sentenced to death if he leaked the nuclear secret and executed with two years after conviction.

Today, it seems like no one sentence to death over leak the nuclear secret and if it does, it would take 20-30 years for execution to be carried.

Yes. It was predictable before he got elected the first time, that any challenge toward him by actors in government would galvanize his image as an outsider. The fact that he convinced people he was an outsider in the first place was pretty amazing (but MSM definitely assisted), but I suspect that half of his voter base just wanted to catalyze America's self-destruction.

It's no surprise that an indictment, by a Biden DOJ no-less, would increase his popularity. It seems intentional.

The Rosenbergs were running an active spy ring for the Soviet Union, the situation here is quite different.

Ain't no "self" destruction about it, they wanted to justify becoming terrorists and holding America hostage just because their belief system which is two centuries behind the rest is becoming increasingly irrelevant in the modern world. Trump and the cretins that still support him are objectively a cancer on this country. They don't respect democracy, so it's time to replace their party with one that does. Or even better, multiple parties.

Yeah man, you are unhinged and not making any sense. I'm talking about the first election where 4chan got Trump into the WH on a meme. I'm not talking about a MAGA conspiracy to storm the capital 4 years in the future; that's Q territory.

Lol. Go for it, King of Democracy.

The rest of your statement contradicts your first sentence, shows that you know exactly what I was referring to. I disagree, however, that it was only the Q nuts who were united in hatred with Trump. That was literally all of his supporters from the moment he made the 'escalator' announcement; he hit all the right (dogwhistle) notes. He's continued to become even less subtle over time, too.

I know what you were referring to, and I also aptly pointed out how it is unrelated to what I said. You don't know how to follow a conversation. Stop being a creep and injecting opinions as if they were my own.

The Mueller probe was a net gain for tax payers. The assets seized paid for the investigation 7 times over.
At least the left is honest about using lawfare against political enemies. Totally not fascist though. Not fascist at all.

I don't remember Julius or Ethel Rosenberg being Commander In Chief with the ability to declassify any document he wishes.

Wait till he starts rewriting your words and quoting them like you said them. He's already pulled that shit on me a few days ago. Can't believe GBATemp allows altering what other people write.

They've got Trump on tape admitting he failed to declassify the documents before losing his presidential powers, doofus.

We respect the republic.
You respect a man who thoroughly and demonstrably betrayed our democratic republic. Which means you are incapable of respecting the republic.

except he can't just declassify stuff whenever he wants. there are recordings of him saying he understood that. he is fucked with a capital F. the documents in question involved info from 7 different agencies, CIA/DOD/NSA/DO(energy)/etc. this on top of obstruction of justice charges.

If Trump is ultimately tried and convicted on the 37 counts, he faces a potentially lengthy prison term. Each count of willful retention of records carries a maximum 10-year sentence. Obstruction charges each carry a 20-year maximum sentence. False-statements charges each carry a five-year maximum.

there was a mass killing of CIA operatives over the last 20 months, and there is potential these documents included info about active operative. i'd say chances are high he sold out americans for cold hard cash.

https://nypost.com/2021/10/05/cia-reports-dozens-of-informants-arrested-or-killed/

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/05/us/politics/cia-informants-killed-captured.html

why is it that conspiracy theorists never seem to pick up on ACTUAL possible conspiracies. also given how everything trump accuses of others is an admission.
