I also used an external drive when using SXOS with XCIs. That was comfortable on the one side, on the other side the loading times with bigger files was much to slow because USB3 speed was never used with SXOS. That speed came later for Atmo.
I use a 512GB microSD that's more than enough space for many many games.
Installation direct from PC to the SD by drag'n'drop, no extra file transfer needed.

So you use the HDD direct on the docking station or by always connecting by cable to the Switch ?
But so or so, you need to connect the HDD to a PC to get new files on it for later installation.
My way that's not needed, I directly install them and save all the time to transfer file to the extra HDD.
In your case it's better to combine all in one file, of course. :)
I wouldn't trust the app anymore because it even can't delete deltas in newer cases.
Sadly it's discontinued, because it once was the one and only app.

I think we're just talking past each other. (Correct English ?)
I know what the files types XCI and NSP meant to be used for.

Is the file type XCI meant to be used for game card dumps and NSP for eShop ? Yes, was never different!
So is an XCI file a rip of a game card ?
No! Could also be a convertion of an eShop app or a HB app which has never been released as game card.
It's just a file type meant to be used as a game card.
Are there content differences between XCI and NSP, regarding the app to be installed ?
No, both contain all needed NCA files to make the wanted installation work, both types handle everything needed.

XCI was used for mounting long time ago, that's an outdated and no more supported way of use. The only supported use is installation that reduces the difference to zero. However it's no problem to convert every NSP to XCI and vice versa, because there're no infos missing for both conversion directions. Only differences are the encryption and the nca settings.
But there's no need at all to still use XCI, all contents like base+upd+dlc can be also combines in one single NSP (or NSZ) file.
Ok, everyone who likes slow loading times could still use XCIs from external drive usinf FW11 + SXOS.
But up-to-date-useres prefer higher speed, this old way is much too slow ... outdated ... unsupported ... dead.
I use it for portable on the go. traveling and stuff when i want to switch a game.
"can't delete deltas in newer cases" How does this matter? What does it mean?

Deltas are unneeded data, nca's (f.e. FW updates?).
Deleting them decreases the file size to save space.

Either I'm working this tool wrong, or it might not have the capabilities... 😔
Can this app verify a large load of titles in one session? As I find it, I can only do it one by one instead of multiple files at once.

I figured it out.
Here are the steps if anyone else stumbles across my post and wants to verify a large numbers of files at a time. (NSCB mass verify files)
Of course launch NSCB.
1) Input "1" to process files INDIVIDUALLY
2) Choose either Input "1" to add folder to list via selector to add a folder, or Input "2" to add file to list via selector for either a single file or multiple.
3) Input "1" to start processing
4) Input "8" to verify files
5) Then decide between inputs 1, 2, or 3. The more files you verify the longer the process will take. I am unaware if there is a limit to how much you can verify in one session.
6) Whichever option you chose, a .txt file will be generated for the same results it recorded from NSCB. It will be located wherever you keep NSCB stored then: NSCB_101bx64\INFO\MASSVERIFY.

I've run into two prompts that I'd like some explaining for.
ncz file needs HASH check and NSP FILE COULD'VE BEEN TAMPERED WITH.

Are these prompts anything I should worried about? I've read here and there that the HASH check can be ignored, while the tampered prompt could imply something malicious. What else could these prompts signify?

Make sure the update file hasn't got any special characters in the file name.

Like you, in the past I used to combine the nsp with the update file with no issues. Haven't used it in a while, so recently had to use it again, updated the keys to the lastest since I was missing the last 2 keys.

The output file would be missing the update, worked out the game update file didnt like the extra "." I used.

Example: game update (v1.0.1).nsp

This, it didnt like the "v1.0.1" I had, so I just renamed it to just "update.nsp", this fixed my issue. I was probably having simple file names in the past and forgotten about it, since I am now using different naming conventions for my backups which caused my issue :)

This may not be your issue, but just putting this out there incase someone else has issues.

Moral of my post, have your nsp file names simple with no special characters when combining base game with update.

Is there any other program like this? I always slipstream my updates, DLC etc into the game file, rather than having lots of individual files. I see it has been abandoned. I cannot slipstream zelda update, but also cannot see an alternative to this program.

It should still work, just need to update keys. But I could be wrong, anyway for an alternative, sak (switch army knife) is a great alternative

Why does it crash when I press enter? I drag my game and press enter but it just crashes
Maybe a too long path or a path with special chars, try to simplify the path where the script is and where the files that you want to modify are (on a simple folder on root of a drive is a good idea).
