Hello everyone,

First time poster here. I decided to make this post since I am having issues with my Wii U. Currently, my Wii U will not boot up to the main menu. It stays stuck on the Wii U logo indefinitely.

There are a few things to note about my console. The console is the black 32 gb model. I believe it was bought during the 2012 holiday season (release) as we were expecting to play Pikmin 3 before it got delayed. The system has never been modded in any fashion. It was not the most heavily played console, and I can't even give a good estimate of when it was last used (at least more than 3 years).

I have already tried doing the UDPIH, however it does not seem to be working. When using the second recovery menu, I get a white screen with some blue lines (see attached image). I believe this is similar to what @fadafwet described in his post. I was able to get the logs from the system, which I have attached to this post. Any idea what the issue may be and how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

just try if UDPIH works at all. If you don't have an SD in the Wii U should just turn off if udpih was successfull
If it does, you would run the mlc_checker recovery. But for that UDPIH it has to work.

This one has me also a little bit concerned:
Code:
Error: Failed to dump folder /"usr\\title\\0005000e"
these are game updates, so they will waste some space, as we probably won't be able to delete this directory

Hi, I'm trying to use the SDIO recovery menu, shared in the thread "threads/teensy-4-1-wii-u-noob" I can't post links.
shares two recovery menu files, one for dumping the MLC log which I have been able to make work together with the raspberry pi pico, but the other interests me to be able to make a MLC/emmc backup, when trying to use it it does not allow me to visualize nothing on the screen, but the power led turns purple which I think works but when trying to navigate with the power and eject button it seems to do nothing at this very moment I am dumping the mlc log, in the previous thread It seemed to me that I read that it lasts around 2 hours, the led changes from blue to yellow, when I have it I uploaded it to this forum in case you can help me identify what is happening with the console, the console broke when trying to pass the data from the wii to the wii u it stayed there and it doesn't let me do anything and it has been saved for several years

So just plug in my pico like I'm using udpih, but don't have the SD card with recovery_menu inserted? I can give that a shot.

As for your concern with the game update error, what exactly is the concern? Is that directory going to be an issue?

@Fabioperez This doesn't look like corrupted MLC to me, the logger came up with only one error
Code:
OpenFile;/vol/storage_mlc01/usr/save/system/pdm/80000006/PlayEvent.dat;-00030015
and the error was, that the file is already open. Try to dump the syslogs and please open a new thread for that. It's already hard enough keeping track of all the cases and mixing them into one thread doesn't help.

So just plug in my pico like I'm using udpih, but don't have the SD card with recovery_menu inserted? I can give that a shot.
Yes

It will use up space, that will be wasted for you.

With all the damage you have in that dump it might make sense to try to dump again trough hardware. Maybe if you have random bits like I did we could get a better dump if we are lucky. Maybe even doing multiple dumps and see which is the best

Sounds like a plan. So if I do a hardware dump, which shouldn't be too difficult now that I have the NAND-AID installed (and if that SD tool gets released by @Voultar), what will I need? I know you've said a Raspberry Pi, but does the model matter? I have an old Zero (first model) lying around. Would this work or would I need to get another one? Also, is there any other software or hardware I'll need such as cables? I'm not an expert in this field and I may not have all the supplies needed. I'd rather prepare ahead of time so I can get this done sooner rather than later.

Edit: Link to post from @Voultar regarding SD tool: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-i-fixed-160-0103-system-memory-error.626448/post-10129299

If you use the raspberry, you don't need the sd tool. The SD tool is only if you want to use a normal Card Reader with the PC.

For the pico it is just wiring up the pads on the NAND-AID with the corresponding gpios on the raspberry and enable the sdio interface on the gpios in the config.txt. You also need to remove the solder bridge from the dis jumper pads.

For the pico it is a little bit annoying to connect an usb device, as you need an adapter. So either you need an large enough SD or write the Image directly to a network share, or use the adapter for usb A.

I tried udpih several times with different timing and the Wii U didn't turn off, which must mean udpih was unsuccessful. I guess the next step would be to do a hardware dump of the SD card/eMMC?

I thought it sounded odd, but I just wanted to make sure.

So for the SD tool, I would just wire up the tool to the pads on the NAND-AID and then plug the SD card part into my computer and do the dump that way? Do you recommend I wait for the SD tool (would it make the dump easier)?

I prefer the Raspberry. It gives more debug output and more control if needed.

You can also modify a SD to micro SD adapter, if you want to use a Cardreader

I'm reading the post by @Leeful on the hardmod dump and he says that it's not a step by step tutorial. Has one been made that I could get the link to?

I also have another question that may not have an answer based on the data gathered, but why is my Wii U not outputting a picture even though it did before the mod? I would think that if the micro SD card is an exact duplicate of the eMMC, it should at the very least be at the same level of the eMMC and give a picture (stuck at the Wii U logo), however this is clearly not the case.

if the data returned by the emmc is bad, then the software might retry serveral times. But the dumper can't check if the data retunred by the eMMC is correct. For that it would need to understand the filesystem. That's the only explaination I have right now.

I'm just a little confused as to what exactly the hardmod entails, so let me describe what I think I need to do and correct me if I'm wrong. What I'll need to do is remove the solder bridge from the DIS jumper and solder wires to the pads on the NAND AID (DAT 0, 1, 2, and 3, CLK, CMD, and maybe ground and/or 3V3?). Those wires then get soldered to the corresponding holes on the Raspberry Pi (in my case, a Raspberry Pi Zero). I can then hook up the Pi to my computer through USB and perform the rest of the steps described by @Leeful. Of course the Pi should be powered through the Wii U using another USB cable. The only thing I'm confused about is if I need to run any specific software on the Raspberry Pi. Again, I'm not too knowledgeable in this field, and it has been a while since I've messed around with a Raspberry Pi, but clearly I have to do something if the sdio interface needs to be enabled in config.txt.
