Star Wars KOTOR II devs go back on promise to release restored content DLC for Switch port

sdajdshdius.png

One of the selling points that publisher Aspyr Media was hyping up prior to the release of their Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II port to the Nintendo Switch was a DLC pack that would include a fan-made modpack that restored cut content from the game. When the game released last year, the restored content DLC wasn't available at launch, and was promised to follow sometime post-release. In the meantime, the initial launch of the game was buggy, and had a game-breaking glitch that prevented players from finishing it. Nearly a year after, Aspyr Media announced that they have canceled the restored content DLC for KOTOR II on Switch, with no specific reason given for the cancelation. To compensate customers who bought the game specifically for the DLC, Aspyr is offering a free code for a range of other Star Wars titles, including KOTOR 2 for Steam, which has support for the cut content modpack via Steam Workshop.

Obsidian should be more selective with the people they choose to do these switch ports. Pillars of Eternity is another unplayable/broken port, but from a different publisher.
Did Obsidian choose them or just sign off on it? Either way, the issue was that the execs didn't wanna track down the modder to give them credit for the Restored Content Mod, not that the devs were incapable of putting it in the Switch version.

Holy cow. That was unexpected. I was one of those people waiting for the update and content to play the game. Isn't there any way to fix the glitch that prevents you from finishing the game on Switch? I really want to play it but my main console is Switch.

I think the port introduced a separate issue that Aspyr patched. Otherwise, I played the game around release on PC, certainly well before the fan patch, and had no issues finishing it.

I'd suggest grabbing the game on a sale on Steam if you're paranoid about bugs. Much cheaper that way, too.

It kinda feels like the switch player base for this game don't matter to these devs :rofl2:
Doesn't matter for a lot of devs. Look at ports like Payday 2 which is so far behind in content and abandoned. Look at the Sinking City port for Switch, their idea of optimizing the game was just adjusting a few settings in Unreal Engine. Tons of other games like that with bugs or crappy performance that aren't being addressed. For evert company like Digital Extremes (Warframe) or Panic Button (DOOM and DOOM Eternal ports, Apex port) there's a studio or two that doesn't care once they get your money. They know you either buy it on Switch because that's what you have, or if you like the game you'll buy a superior version on PC or another console.

Yep, once again the Steam Deck does what Nintendon't.

Not a Switch or Nintendo issue, it's a developer issue. The Switch is a massive success which means plenty of potential sales, but they don't want to put the effort into a proper port so they just modify some settings in UE4 or Unity and call it a day thinking Switch users are gonna be glad to get inferior versions like PS2 and Wii releases of multiplatform games like Sonic Unleashed.

I was wondering when they made the announcement if it was just going to be the same cut-content pack that was already available for the PC version. Because otherwise I couldn't really see why someone would want to pay that kind of price for a twenty year old game.

What is funny is that if a hacked Switch can just use the restored content mod to play the cut content yet a "company" can not. (Is this possible?)

Always modders and fans prolong a game and care longer then the actual teams behind these games, it's disgusting. Some devs owe modders and fans a lot thanks to modes/content created that in turn turned into full fledged games or made more money for these "devs".

That's a good question I would like the answer too as well

It wouldn't work natively since the mod is for PC, but I know people on this site have put in the work before to get PC mods working on hacked Switches.

Man, that sucks. I remember playing this years ago, before the missing content patch was even finished. Guess I'll have to replay it on PC to experience that.

I guess they cancelled the DLC because they needed to focus on fixing the core game and get it where you can actually finish the game?

Wait, they STILL haven't patched that bug?

My bad, I read the first post and got the impression that the bug was still a problem. I haven't been following the news for this game, and don't own it myself. It's probably not the case that they haven't fixed a bug that egregious in a year.

Actually it doesn't matter if it was "made for PC", it depends if the files are the same 'extension' and format within those container files while also depending on the engine if it needs to but dropped in color depth (for example from 32 to 24 or 16 as a way to "optimize" textures to run on lesser spec systems)

I know this from make conversion mods from PC to PS2 in the GTA games.
