Holy **** you guys made a lot pf progress in just one week.
Read everything and I'm excited and impressed!

The thing with RetroArch/LibRetro is that they are not bothering anymore with the Wii.
Years ago when I began testing RetroArch builds I was reporting them the issues (I think it was when 1.8.5 was brand new/latest) and officially said the same:

So of course the Wii is unatended, I mean, RetroArch is been broken in Wii since 1.9.10 onwards and it's a hit or miss thing with newer versions (Also found incompatibility issues with different cluster sizes INDIVIDUAL TO HAVING FAT32)

But I'm glad to see RetroArch Arcade emulation improved, considering the Wii is probably the lastest console being compatible with CRT's.

If you guys need beta testers, I could do it.

I have a spare 16GB so I could test builds and roms without problems.
Sure, if u want to test the builds, on the conversation they posted test builds.

Any particular romset or roms you guys want to get tested?

I have a github account that I was using to report GIMP tests, and it's been unused in years... so I guess I'll report back in GitHub.

Ok... with the builds posted, they aclarate which drivers/romset were compiled in each test build.
I know the early working Pico core releases supported CD and also had CHD support. The latest versions i included in the WFL plugins pack do not support CD at all. It is not a big deal though since this core should only be used for 32X games anyhow. I recently tested 1.10.1 - 1.15.0 and CD support was broken on all. Not sure exactly when CD support was broken but i believe 1.90 or 1.91 was the last working release i remember.
Hmmm... Interesting... i'm gonna try SEGA CD 32X myself later.
But... maybe u want to read this?

I wonder how much speed would be gained from porting one of the later yabause forks, the wii port was made back when yabause was slow even on regular PCs
I wonder if anyone here knows how tocompile it with the latest cores. It might run faster and would fir sure run faster on a Wii U when it's overclocked.

Do you know which version of RetroArch has this core?

I'm using 1.7.6 for all my cores (literally tested all versions of RetroArch and I've found 1.7.6 to be better than 1.8.X / 1.9.X / 1.10.X, etc in teems of stability and sound fidelity)
Can you share the exact version of 1.7.6 that you’re using?

What is the best performing version of Picodrive for 32x games, that…

- doesn't have cracking audio

- works as a Wiiflow plugin

Right now it seems like RA-HEXAECO_r05-11-2021is working the best for me, but having issues with using it as a Wiiflow plugin. Anyone have a core that they feel works better? @SaulFabre you are usually pretty on top of these things…

For WFL users, official RA 1.15.0!

RA-HEX is unusable to a point where i pulled it from the plugins pack some time ago.

So for me, it really come down to RA 60fps performance vs HEX 25fps performance. This is seriously the difference between the 2 cores.

I feel like this is one of those scenarios where you can have your cake but you are not allowed to eat the entire piece.

Oh man, I can't get over the crackling audio with 1.15.0! Are you seriously not getting that? I'll go give it yet another try. I so WANT it to work…

Testing After Burner, Amazing Spider-Man, BC Racers, Blackthorne i jakked my audio to 30. I'm using default audio settings through RA, also using standard Wii component cables. Maybe my ears are not good enough but i seriously hear no crackling.

I'm sure you're right! The crackling I hear is not subtle, you'd hear it if it was there. I'm on a vWii… maybe that's the difference? To me it sounds like the crackling you get when there is an improper audio sample rate conversion being done. And since I'm on a vWii, that might be possible, since there is no Digital to Analogue conversion being done to the audio, but there may be a sample rate conversion when the audio stream is multiplexed into whatever goes through HDMI. This issue appeared around RA 1.8.2-ish for me, but the Hexaeco builds completely solve this. I was hoping that one of the Hexaeco builds actually worked as a Wiiflow plugin. Or perhaps there is a way to tweak 1.15.0 to overcome this. Will keep trying. Thanks for letting me know!

p.s. The only 32x games I even bother with are After Burner, Mortal Kombat 2, Space Harrier, and Star Wars Arcade. With the ability to recall saved games I really only play those arcade ports.

@AdamCatalyst

Here is the earliest RA picodrive core that Tetsuo included in the WFL plugins pack V6. It is 1.9.0 and probably will not solve the issue but worth a try if you have not already tested.

I do have a WiiU set up in the front room but have not got around to testing yet. I will tonight or tomorrow and give you feedback if the WiiU is indeed causing the audio issue.

If you have not played the Virtua Racing Mirror hack for 32x, highly recommended. I own the Genesis VR and played countless days back in 94-96. PGA Tour Golf II, NBA Live 95, NHL 95 and Road Rash II, Virtua Racing were the games we all got together to play. Such great memories!

Speaking of Genesis NHL, i see you released '23. I have played a few games recently, great work again my friend.

Short story about the NHL series. One of my college friends had NHL Hockey (92) back then but he lived off campus. So i got to play a little here and there when he had weekend parties but i was hooked and saved my money to purchase 93. All i had at the dorm at the time was PGA Tour Golf I and Side Pocket and Sonic. The days & battles me and my friends spent on NHL 93 was crazy. Needless to say we all became ringers, putting up 25-30 goals in 5 min periods against the computer was common. After graduating from JuCo and coming home, my best friend who just got out of the Army bought 94 for the Sega CD and it blew our minds with the one-timer, what a revelation to the series. I ended up buying 95 and i believe i have sunk more time into that sports game than any other (EVER), Ken Griffey MLB SNES would be a close second. I did get NHL 96 from a local pawn shop back then but it could never hold up to 95 in my opinion. In conclusion, i don't believe i have ever played 94 on the actual Genesis hardware, only Sega CD or through emulation. I know 94 is considered the very best, but for me, 95 will always hold that status. NHL 2004 on GameCube was excellent as well.

Thanks for listening/reading my "Short" story.
