The Little Mermaid. Is it getting flak because of racism, or because it's yet another remake?

I issue a challenge. You accept. I call for you to name your weapons. I name the place. We duel at dawn. You name some stupid ass weapon and I post something equally dumb about Leeroy Jenkins or a battle cry, and the joke is over.

Over some stupid fictitious ranking list of personal preference. Which IS the entire fucking joke.

Fuck me. And *I* am the one with the concussion?

At least I didn't hurt my elbow patting myself too hard on the back in response to a joke I didn't get

I was just saying. I made a throwaway comment that got taken way too cereal.

Aladdin is still the best Disney movie. And I will still fight anyone who disagrees.

Uh, I understood perfectly fine. Doesn't appear you did though. LOL! But go on and make comments about patting ones own back, while patting your own back because you think you made a funny I didn't understand. You're not as special and unique as you think you are. There wasn't a whole lot to not understand. lol. Just sayin.

Aladdin is not even close to being the best Disney movie. And I will still fight anyone who disagrees. Get it? Or nah? Didn't think so.

You silly twat, the entire joke is that it's all going to be subjective, no matter what. I am going to be forty next year. I am not going to actually get into combat with a kid arguing over a Disney movie. You take yourself WAAAAAY too seriously, brother.

Calm down. Touch grass. Breathe wind.

Honestly I have nothing against remakes and reboots, but this movie unfortunately doesn't hook me, at all.
And I promise, this has nothing to do with the cast, nor the budget, nor the fact that they wanted to re-invent the wheel.
I can't find any reason to actually justify if I would like or dislike the movie.
I just have no interest, even a lead character being a perfect doppelganger from the original animated movie character would not change my mind.
That said, from the photos I did see circulating, I think the mermaid herself looks beautiful, and most likely played her character very well too, sadly the CGI side characters absolutely ruin the magic for me.

Just to give further details, I do remember an older live action remake of the movie, and I can say for sure, it seriously sucked, so maybe this version is actually better, but again, I can't find any motivation to go see for myself.

Maybe if someone invited me to watch the movie, I would come and watch just to be polite, but I don't have much expectations considering that too many live action remakes are mediocre at best.
The cast is rarely the problem, anyway, it's more of a whole production problem, so I can say for sure the skin colour exhibited by an actor is the least of my concerns.

Re-read my last comment. Slowly this time. I understood perfectly fine and was playing along. You on the other hand, are awfully triggered and seem to not even get your own joke. Going to be 40? I have 10+ years on ya, kid. Before you talk about taking things seriously, take a good look in the mirror. Someone has a little fun with your "joke" and you fly off the handle accusing others of taking things too seriously. LOL!

Although I don't mind seeing a new live action movie of the little mermaid being released from Disney, I'll definitely wait to see it until it gets released on Disney+. I'm in no rush. The very best live action film of this classic story I ever saw was this one. You can view the full movie (one hour TV show, so about 50 minutes) on this link, but german language only, as it was originally released. Low production value compared to Disney, but they got a lot of stuff right in reference to the original story. For example, walking on her feet hurts her, and she almost stabbed the prince to get released from her contract with the sea witch. She didn't turn into sea foam at the end, though. That probably would have been too much to handle for kids watching the show. And the actress was cute too, but she didn't talk much. :D

True, TBH i could care less about who's in it. As long as it's enjoyable, ill bite.
The Lion King remake was honestly better than the others that I've seen.

I have a hard time believing that a generation raised on Eddie Murphy, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes, Dennis Rodman, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Whitney Huston (and many, many more black entertainers…) has a problem with black representation in film. I think the problem might be that The Little Mermaid, originating from a Danish fairy tale and famously depicted in one of Disney’s greatest animated films, is traditionally depicted as white. We can argue all day about the chicken and the egg here, perhaps the studio was genuinely interested in promoting inclusion (likely story) or perhaps they wanted to capitalise on a “racial controversy” and score some easy and free advertising, but ultimately if we’re really so interested in black representation in film, perhaps we should be advocating giving black actors and actresses original and memorable roles which they deserve. We don’t need to race-bend existing characters for apparently no reason, unless Hollywood feels exceptionally honest right now and wants to admit that it’s going through a creativity crisis, with the writing getting so bad that it’s just safer to remake an old, beloved property, but with a “twist”.
