Nintendo eShop closing down in Russia, limited to only re-download pre-owned titles

Untitled.png

Russian customers that have been using the Nintendo eShop for their gaming needs won't be able to make any new purchases or transactions using the service, beginning on May 31st, 2023.

Nintendo of Europe started sending emails to publishers, to which some websites like Game Developer caught upon. In said email, Nintendo mentions an overall halt in sales for Russia through their eShop service. This isn't the first time Nintendo does something like this on Russian territory, as last year Nintendo stopped product shipments to the country. With the current cease of sales in the eShop, Russian customers will only be able to redownload already owned titles from the eShop, but they won't be able to make any new purchases. Nintendo will also delete all kinds of payment information from Russian customers that have a Nintendo Account (like credit card and PayPal information) for privacy reasons.

Excerpt from Nintendo of Europe's email to publishers said:
As a result of the economic outlook, Nintendo of Europe has decided to wind down operations of its Russian subsidiary. As part of our efforts to honor preceding commitments to our customers in the Russian market, the Russian version of Nintendo eShop will be set to offer limited service.

As of May 31, 2023, and for the foreseeable future, Russian customers with an existing Nintendo Account will be able to redownload digital content that they have previously purchased. It will not be possible to make any new purchases or use download codes within Nintendo eShop in Russia.

While Nintendo cites the "economic outlook" as the reason for the closure of the eShop, it's almost certain it is tied or a consequence to the current on going conflict in which Russia is involved. It could also be related to the fact that Russia made piracy legal in the country since March, 2022, after several gaming (and other) companies started making sanctions effective for the region.

He's ex-KGB (…)
People grossly overestimate Putin’s resume, which is part of his effort to build a “tough guy” public image. Yes, he worked in the KGB - as a pencil pusher. He’s often cited as a lieutenant colonel, but (allegedly) he was actually just a major after working there for 16 years, at least according to ex-KGB general Oleg Kalugin. He was not a “super agent” by any stretch of the imagination.

First came to power when he bombed his own people and then took credit for bringing those supposedly responsible to "justice." That's pretty much been his MO ever since, solve problems that he himself created and then throw himself a parade
Gotta need sources on that stuff tbh, never heard of such stuff
OIder generations just love it when narcissists project the "strongman" image.
Gotta agree with that

Funny to see the post about Putin and all the many nonsense. We clearly know who is to blame here, everybody knows it, no one seems to say it? It is the USA, that is who.
do these LIES help you sleep at night? usa didn't invade a country because they didn't like the idea of them joining NATO. only dictators do that.

Thank you half bald warmonger with napoleon complex.
You mean Biden and zelensky right, for selling out and pumping military equipment into Ukraine and to Russian borders for 8 YEARS before Feb 2022? Oh yeah that right. I mean, America would wait and watch 8 years if something like that was done in Mexico and borderline with America?... Or America would probably nuke them within a month if they didn't want to stop and negotiate 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Just get back into your bunker when you don't even know how many holes you have, please, please 🥱🤦

Haha, no but they have invaded quite a few coutries - off the top of my head!

Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Grenada, Panama, Haiti.....and many others.

Here's a list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Invasions_by_the_United_States

Then there's the bombings, Serbia, Syria, Libya, Russia etc.....

If you want to talk about dictators - USA has a long history of dictating to other countries, or have you never noticed this?

What's with 7 pages of politics? This is a purely financial news.
Well, the two are quite obviously intertwined. The reason why the financial situation of the Russian subsidiary deteriorated is, more likely than not, due to economic sanctions, and economic sanctions were imposed due to the on-going conflict, which wasn’t ignored by the international community this time around, unlike in 2014 when everyone was up in arms about the aggression, but did very little to quell it. Nintendo isn’t the first to shut down their operations in the country for this reason, and they won’t be the last. Even giants like McDonald’s and Coca-cola retreated from the Russian market, and neither company is particularly humanitarian. Coca-cola hired *Columbian paramilitaries* to bust a worker’s union, but they’ve decided that *staying in Russia* was worse PR and a bigger disruption to their business for them in comparison, that should tell you something.

oh we are using wikis now you mean those things that ANYONE can edit or add to? piss off moron you have ZERO proof. we all know who is at fault because of the invasion. and ANYONE who supports what russia is doing can go fuck themselves. no wonder all the companies want nothing to do with them. SHITtins actions speak louder than a stupid wiki!
All he does is spread russian propaganda in this thread, don't expect him to post any actual proofs of anything. I have no idea why his garbage is not getting deleted along with other BS other "unbiased" members have posted (that was actually deleted).

I was in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo during those wars and spent some time with US forces in all of those tours. I also did 4 tours in Bosnia but didn't see any Americans on those tours. So I don't really need proof as I saw it with my own eyes and also participated in those wars. So wikipedia was not really needed for those, I was a bit young for Vietnam - but I remember seeing it on TV when I was a kid. I also remeber USA bombing Libya and Syria, and Serbia and a few other places. Also I don't give a fook about Ukraine or Russia - they are two sides of the same coin and are both as corrupt as each other, although I do think Zelensky is as corrupt as they come - he's all about lining his pockets with American cash and is a tinpot dictator. I can sympathise with Putin for doing the right thing when the Ukrainians were commiting crimes and killing lots of innocent Russian people in the Donbas for the last 8 years. Still you'll be quiet about that I guess as it won't fit in with your narrative.

And again more russian propaganda without any proof, keep it up. I hope you are getting payed for this, otherwise I have no idea why you keep embarrassing yourself with this kind of garbage.

Yes we had best silence the critics and those whose views that differ from ours - let's cancel them and not them have a voice - just like 1984.

There's two sides to every argument, but you will never be able have a balanced viewpoint if you only ever listen to one side. This is one of the biggest reasons that millions of people throughout the world now see the MSM as a corrupt dinosaur of the past and now don't trust anything that comes out of the news and get their information from elsewhere. If you want to walk around with your eyes closed, feel free - but don't try and force others to think the same way you do by suppressing information from them, if you do you are no better than one of these dictators that you claim to despise.
