I really don't know since it's physically impossible to connect a 2.5" ide hdd to the ps2 without one. This is the type of adapter you would need. You can see that the physical connections for 3.5" and the 2.5" drives is different.

Now the PS5 isn't recognizing the external HDD and with the former turned on, the external HDD's whistling noise is much more intense and its LED doesn't stop blinking. Is the external HDD faulty?

EDIT: After disconnecting the external HDD's power cord and connecting it back, the PS5 said the external HDD needed to be repaired, so I proceeded with the step. After it endes, the PS5 is now detecting the external HDD again and it's only making the former noise but its LED is still constantly blinking.

EDIT 2: Now the LED alternates between constantly blinking and stabilizing. Maybe it was already blinking before this happened and I only noticed it now, so it might be normal.

Sounds like the drive was disconnected from the PS5 without the PS5 being shut down properly or the drive is starting to go bad. Might want to look into replacing it if you can.

But I bought it in 2020 and it was very expensive. There was a recent power shortage, the PS5 said to repair the external HDD and I did it (I think I previously had this problem on the PS4 with the same external HDD after a power shortage as well), so maybe the power shortage caused the problem that time but then I had the same problem again (the one I previously reported) but this time I didn't have a power shortage.

Another thing, do the TV's USB ports charge DualSense/PULSE 3D? Sometimes it seems they do and other times they don't and it seems if the PS5's USB ports are charging them while the PS5 is in rest mode and I take their USB cables and put them back, they stop charging.

An improper shut down due to a power failure would cause the drive to be repaired by the PS5 upon being powered up but shouldn't cause the noise you are hearing to get louder. If it's getting louder or more frequent I'd say the drive is starting to go bad. Another indication could be if you plug it in to a pc and it takes longer than normal to be detected. You can try this, just don't format it when prompted.

As for the TV USB ports I'm sure they do output a little bit of power but I can't say how much. It should in theory work but may be inconsistent.

But the noise only began days after the external HDD was repaired for the first time. I'll see if I have this strange issue again. Anyway, like before, it's making the usual whistling noise (the previous one) when connected to the PS5's power strip even with the PS5 and the remaining devices disconnected from it as well as if directly connected to this power strip's socket and to another wall socket in the same wall, but it doesn't do it when connected to the laptop's power strip even with the PC and the remaining devices connected as well as if directly connecting to this power strip's socket which is connectes to a socket in another wall, so could this be a mains issue?

Does it depend on the TV?

EDIT: It seems the TV's USB ports only charge DualSense/PULSE 3D if the TV is turned on.

EDIT 2: It seems the PS5's external HDD is making a second noise even with the PS5 turned off and I have to click its power strip's switch or take its power cord to stop it as well.

EDIT 3: I might take the PS5's external HDD's power cord from the external HDD's power input from now on to stop these noises even if playing PS4 games on the PS5 will take longer since it will take some time to recognize the external HDD to load the PS4 games on it or to recognize the external HDD to install new PS4 games to it.
