Pride Month begins tomorrow. Considering Target and Bud Light, how do you think the nation will respond this year?

We're kind of at another pivotal moment when it comes to American culture, marketing and capitalism. Companies are being lambasted for going woke, and stock prices are plummeting to the tune of billions and billions of dollars for companies that are forwarding a pro-LBGT agenda.

How do you think this year will pan out? Considering that every single corporation and company in America wants some of that sweet, sweet Pride money, most will be onboard.

Do you think there will be any blowback this year? Any kind of a different response as compared to years prior?

I'm interested to see if anyone actually gives a shit about all of this and if any of it influences your buying decisions. Do you support companies based on the social issues they support, or because of the products that they sell?

Not only bud, the big losses of target, the big crash of latest Disney's movies, etc. it will be interesting
I definitely think it will be different from all previous years. I also predict that "Won't anyone think of the children?!" will be the main arguing point against any company that openly promotes and supports Pride Month.

As a raging queer, the noticeable uptick this year of companies putting out pro-LGBT+ statements/ads anywhere from 1-4 weeks early is pretty hilarious. I think all the memes about corps giving a shit about us exclusively for the month of June the last couple years got to some marketing folks' heads lol. It's shitty that Target and Bud folded because of pressure from conservatives, however. IMO that's worse than being performative consistently or just not participating in Pride in the first place.

It's seriously like Family Dollar putting out their fucking Christmas decorations on the first day of November. I get what you are saying.

They don't CARE. They just want as much money as they can get, and if they get blowback, they punk out to whomever they think is their biggest consumer base.

Any port in a storm.

They'll just start pandering again. The companies don't actually give a shit about LGBT people. They just put on a guise that makes gullible people think they give half a shit and that convinces them to buy their products. I may be an LGBT person, but the ads atp are actually kind of starting to annoy me because companies act like they're doing us some amazing service by slapping a rainbow on their logo and saying "Hey, you're represented! Now give us all your money!".

It's insulting. It's demeaning, and overall it just makes the companies look like a joke. So what do I think will happen this year? Same as every year recently. They'll uselessly pander, and people will be annoyed.

What you just said. Slapping a rainbow label on it and saying, "Hey, you are represented now!".

This is exactly how I feel about race-swapping in classic movies. It's the same pandering scheme. It's just as insulting as you said. They DON'T care, and worse, they think that just making something LOOK like you means it actually represents you, reducing you to your outward appearance.

It's all a fucking scheme. None of them care. It's all just to appeal to people who have very base natures and think that outward appearance is everything there is in life.

Which doesn't say much for the consumer, either.

We are all fucked.

By and large most people are content to live and let live, and write off the month as another greeting card holiday devoid of any particular meaning.
The Bud Light/Anheuser-Busch, Disney and Target stuff seems to be mostly them doing ill conceived if not publicity stunts (possibly by braindead marketing types) then maybe attempts to play to the ESG nonsense (that does gatekeep a lot of cheap loan money for now at least so play to it may not be the worst plan).

To that end nothing will change other than a few companies that go balls deep into marketing stupidity, especially if their marlet is rednecks and hillbillies, might get slapped, whatever crap gets pumped out to pander to it will end up in the cheapy shop (roll on more nice big bags of colourless skittles for £1 a pop please), a few people on twitter will point and laugh at the lack of courage in their convictions (no rainbows in the middle east division logos, films cut for said same locales, certainly not donating to causes there despite such people actually being troubled majorly), someone will probably edit the pride flag again to include some other aspect (I have not seen this year's take yet) despite the whole point of the what is now dubbed conservative pride flag aka the plain rainbow being that it covers everybody under that umbrella and always did, whether there will be a true schism yet I don't know (see stuff like LGB alliance) but might be delved into for some. 10 years from now most of anything there will be a footnote compared to the recession/depression/crash that is happening, though first successful boycotts in a while might be a thing in that chapter of the textbook on consumer action (whether the surprisingly good local brews and IPAs the US, or at least the west coast, has going on these days take over from piss water/rice beer/making love in a canoe that the major efforts in the US went in for/convinced the population were drinkable remains to be seen, if yes hope chocolate is next).

if my workplace is anything to go by, there will be decorations up on the first probably 1 dollar plastic tablecloths, there will be some LBGTQ+ related event at some point in the month, maybe 2, i'm not sure, and everything will be back to its usual drab colors on july first.

<==8 Queer, Gay, Homo, 3 dollar bill, Faggot. And Damn Proud Of It 🏳️‍🌈 :D:grog::toot::hrth:

....... And fought in 3 wars for this Freedom we have
There have been three American wars in the past fifty years?

American intervention is not "war". The only ones I know of were the Iraq War (2003-2011) and the Afghanistan War (2001-2021), both of which were part of the 'War on Terror'.

EDIT : Also Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, from 1990-1991. I would not really call that a "war", though. More of a conflict. But if the US Department of Veterans Affairs calls it a war, I will shut my mouth and remain silent.
