Tesla - The Nintendo Switch Overlay Menu

fhwyjbd.png

Hey all.
I'd like to introduce to you, Tesla: My answer to the growing need for proper ingame front ends for sysmodules.

What is this?

  • Tesla consists of three individual parts. nx-ovlloader, the Tesla menu and libtesla.
    • nx-ovlloader is basically nx-hbloader ported to run as a sysmodule. It runs in the background and loads overlay NROs (.ovl files) given to it.
    • Tesla Menu is the equivalent to the hbmenu. It's the initial thing loaded by nx-ovlloader and acts as a hub for you to select all other overlays.
    • libtesla is where it becomes interesting for developers. It's an easy to use library that handles layer creation, UI drawing and all the overlay UX. It makes it very easy to create a new overlay for anything
  • A frontend for sysmodules that before required either a homebrew or a config file to change settings or used sounds or the LED to give the user feedback.

What is this not?

  • A tool that lets you create overlays that are always visible. Overlays can get unloaded way to easily for this.
  • An excuse to port absolutely everything to a overlay. Nobody's going to need a title manager overlay. If you consider making a overlay, keep it simple. You don't have a whole lot of memory to work with.

How do I use this?

First of all, download the latest release of nx-ovlloader and the Tesla Menu from the GitHub Release page and extract it onto your SD card.
After a reboot, hold down L and DPad Down and push on the right joy stick to bring up Tesla at any time. Navigation works as you imagine it.
Similar to normal homebrews, you place your .ovl files in the /switch/.overlays folder on your SD card.

Notice

Make sure to use the latest Atmosphere release when trying this as older versions ( as the one SX OS uses too ) probably won't have enough memory available for this to run. Overlays do take a lot of space so nx-ovlloader reserves 6MB. 2MB for framebuffers and around 4MB for overlay developers to use in their overlays.

And Status Monitor was already released with this fix + two others specific to Status Monitor itself, not libtesla.

This is exclusively for those who want to test their work outside of 4IFIR, not for production. I have been asked this many times. They differ visually, Monitor Status modes are customized, etc. I did not filter individual ones, and just laid out all those used in the assembly. Your newest crutch is included too - a very original solution. I credited you as well.

I was extending my rights according to license under which all overlays are shared. If you are sharing publicly compiled binaries, you are obliged to share changes on request. I want only listed all changes you are calling "dirty hacks" related to my overlays in this package that were not done by me.

There is a difference in treatment from me when you are sharing modified overlay with changed name vs sharing overlays under names I am using. I don't trust end users to not blame me for any potential bug that will occur with them that was not because of me. There may be people that will download your overlays and share it on other sites while attaching only my name as author.

You can always delete my overlays that have additional changes and share them under different name. Then I won't object and request changes.

I understand. Sorry.

Almost all overlays was updated to 16.0.0 by now, yesterday the libtesla was updated again for a trouble when docked.

I just finished building all I use and having no problem at all.

is there anything that could be preventing it from opening? I used to use it with no problem. I remember it crashed when I used it for awhile, so I waited until now to update it. I don't think I've used it since. I remember it was causing crashes when booting up my switch with atmosphere before the 16.0.0 update and I forget what method I used to fix that from happening. Could I have put something in my SD card that could be preventing it or something?

Hello :)
Can some please help me getting Zing to work on FW 16.0.1.
I've updated Tesla (ovlmenu v1.2.1), EdiZon SE (v3.8.37) and Zing Breeze-Overlay.ovl (Zing HOS16_quickfix)
But no menu is shown at all.

Do I handle it wrong ?
1.) Starting an app you want to use a cheat with.
2.) Starting EdiSon SE, all cheats are shown on the left side
3.) Press L and add the wanted cheats to the bookmarks shown on the right side by pressing +
4.) Go back to app.
5.) Press L+DPadDown+RightStick to show menu/overlay.... but nothing is shown.
