Pffff...when I made my top 220 games of all time together when bored with the lockdown, it put some pretty obscure titles next to some known ones. Let's pick some of the most obscure ones:

North vs south: a DOS game that recreates the civil war in comic book style. It's a mix of (simple) turn based area control, sometimes with some platforming sections or an isometric battlefield. Had a...sort of remaster that doesn't show the whole map (erm...monitors got BIGGER since the nineties, right? ) and replaced the platforming with 3D levels. For some reason the developers thought they needed to recreate the wonkiness instead of what made it tick.

Z: was way ahead of its time in using area control in a RTS. It's on steam, and...much easier than I remember (I breezed through the levels, whereas as a kid I struggled)

scorched earth: before worms, there was scorched earth (and before that a "Gorilla" game in qbasic :P ). Set the angle, set the velocity...fire. And though worms goes pretty wild...scorched earth went above and beyond if you tweaked the settings a bit.

Despotism 3k: some PC games have a large "WTF did I just played?" factor. Well...this does that on an android phone. You're an evil overlord that makes other antagonists look like pansies. You're exhausting humans for electricity. Feeding them soylent green. Having them breed. It's...nuts. But the game just RUNS with it.

Minesweeper genius: ugh...I payed for this thing, and then it got delisted. I still have a backup copy from some obscure site, luckily enough. What it is: the combination of minesweeper and picross. And you're some dude who's running around trying to avoid the bombs. It's how I like my puzzle games

campfire cooking: you know it's obscure when it doesn't even show as recommended when looking at Stephen's sausage roll. It's...you move your sticks of marshmallows around on the board, trying to roast both sides without getting stuck or burning it. Great puzzler.

Lula: the sexy empire. Let it be noted I do NOT recommend it to minors (though I was a minor when I played it). It's a simulator game. Think Leisure suit Larry but explicit. And with an actual game to it (though a bit of a wonky one at that). But ey...where else can you build up your porn empire? :P

Offspring fling: how did I even get this? It's a platformer puzzler in which you throw your children. Really...it's the sort of thing HAL laboratories comes up with (heh...the protagonist even looks like Kirby).

Mole mania: yes, Miyamoto made an obscure game. Why do they STILL pretend it never existed?

Capcom soccer shootout: soccer (football) before EA got their hands on it and made it boring. It's for the SNES, but ey...bashing into others and hoping the referee doesn't notice is part of the fun. Especially couch multiplayer. :P

Simon Tatham's puzzles: I think I encountered this when first exploring linux. I now put it on all my tablets (hint: it's completely free). In itself, it's nothing fancy. Classic puzzles, randomly generated. But it's like everyone including the author forgot about it.

Lost vikings: this one mostly fits the hidden gem thus far (blizzard's early years). You play as three people with their own strengths. Your job is to navigate them to the exit. The enemies/platforming is pretty 'meh', but the puzzle solving is top notch.

My farm life 2: a now ex girlfriend introduced me to this series. I guess it's called a farmville clone, but meh: it's good.

Hardback: talk about a weird one: it's a deckbuilder in which you buy cards with letters on them. You must create words to buy more letters, points and all sorts of abilities. I bought the board game based on this app.

Age of rivals: it's a 4X game in which you draft cards with an opponent. It's weird and hard to get into, but once it clicks you'll find a wealth of depth. Tough choices as well, as things can go unexpectedly wrong if you anticipate the next steps incorrect.

Rise of nations: now THIS is one where I want a remaster. It's an RTS in which you and your opponent build up civilizations. But unlike age of empires, this one doesn't stick to age. As a result, I always rush to the modern age and attack with tanks and muskets when they're still using horses. :P

Christ...I better stop before the moderators think I'm spamming. But I've got plenty more! :P

An old SHMUP for DOS called Raptor: Call of the Shadows.

It's a nice vertical shooter, which might come off as very generic, but on a CRT it was beautiful.
And a few games I liked from my school's Apple IIe computers were Electrifying Adventure, O'Dell Lake, and Number Munchers. (It's also THE system with the BEST version of The Oregon Trail game. There was also some math game that gives you fuel and bombs for getting the problems right, and then lets you freely bomb the shit out of a city below while taking out enemy choppers. (This was long before domestic terrorism was commonplace in schools, so there was no cause for a fuss over the violence in the game.)
Post automatically merged:

Mega Ball on the Amiga computer was fun, and is the best brick-breaking ball and paddle game I've ever played.
Zany Golf, also on the Amiga, is one of the coolest miniature golf games to ever exist.

I like minesweeper and picross, and clever combinations of them, and you have good taste in puzzle games, so I'll likely check this out.

Valkyrie Profile series, although we can talk about to what extent they are obscure. I feel like I don't really know anyone who've played them, at least it's a rare mention.

That's the one alright. :)
For the record: i bought it on android for, admittedly, hardly anything. I had no idea it's available on consoles.

Edit: and please do. I wouldn't have posted it if i wasn't fond of it. :)
It has lots of levels, but it's admittedly not the hardest puzzle game on the planet. I think i was almost halfway before i had to retry a level for the first time because i got stuck on something.

Sounds good to me - sometimes I want challenging puzzle games, but sometimes I just want to give my brain repetitive logic tasks to do over and over again to relax. Getting it now, thanks for the rec!

It's still holding up. Available on gog, iirc.

I sort of cheated on that game:

if you start level 5 or 6, you get a new weapon fairly soon. If you then cancel the mission, you still have it. Do that a handful times, sell the weapons, then buy the most expensive ones to power through most of the rest of the game. :P

This is the one game I ever rec in threads like this, I like it so much. And I'm not even a Sailor Moon fan.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S Kurukkurin

It's one of I think four SNES Sailor Moon puzzle games, and one of two on the system that have never been translated, so it's fairly obscure even given that it's from a popular franchise. All of the characters have memorable special powers, the music is infectious and the game is simply fun to play once you learn what all the special items on the board do. Everyone I've shown it to (as in starting the game and putting a controller in their hands) sings its praises.

I just wish there were more games like it.

There was a Flash game on Kiddonet called Plantworld that I played a lot as a kid. You're a pumpkin with a squirt gun who has to rescue a bunch of vegetables from evil pumpkins. I still have the main theme memorized.

It's likely lost media at this point.
I found this on archive but it looks like a Tetris clone. Maybe it was part of a series with the same name?

1. Blast Doors

I spent dozens of hours with this relatively complex artillery game. It has a catchy soundtrack and much more options than the other contemporary artillery games.

2. Hype - The Time Quest

This game was once termed as the answer to Ocarina of Time on the PC. I would not compare this one with it, but it was and still is a highly underrated mix of Action-Adventure and Platformer.

3. Die DillyBillys

Maybe the most obscure game in this entire thread! I clearly remember this highly unusual Point-and-Click-Adventure and its unintentionally eerie atmosphere, but I do not even find a single picture of it! Evidence for its existence is in this link: Reddit
