Okay, so hShop downloads and installs the games for you. Do you still have to manually update/install DLCs afterwards? Does hShop intuitively know which region it is that you installed for a game, and feeds the right updates/DLCs automatically?

I'll check out the NDS forwarder, thanks.

They have seperated in region in the hshop menu for game/update/dlc there should one for Canada.

My 3DS crashed when I tried using Pokemon Bank last night, I'm not sure what happened or if I can replicate it? Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a chance that my 3DS might've dumped a crash report? Pokemon Bank was lagging a lot so I was already spamming some buttons out of frustration before the crash happened so I didn't get a chance to read it, but it said "boot" a few times.

If you can't replicate it and your 3DS is still working normally, then does it particularly matter..?

It's hardly unexpected that Pokemon Bank would have been behaving oddly last night.

Okay an odd thing happened my friend was updating ctgp 7 on his 3DS when during updating a menu appear and he panicked and started clicking stuff randomly. Long story short his sound doesn't work anymore (It will come in when he boots the 3DS but then cut out within a few seconds. It also works fine when headphones are plugged in and then taken out.) Edit: this has been fixed

Completely new to the 3DS but I got an XL that is still on 7.x firmware. Should I keep it on there and put on CFW or should I update since the last few can also have CFW? Usual jailbreak philosophy is that lower is better but I’m wondering if that matters in this case.

Yes. Follow the Soundhax method.

The above is easier. Though both can get your 3ds modded (with Luma cfw).
Thanks for the reply, but are there any benefits on keeping it at 7.x? Or would just updating and the. Going to Luma be better for ease and compatibility?

The end result is the same regardless of the method.
For old firmware versions Soundhax is the fastest and easiest thing (if no ntrboot cart at hand). Once B9S is installed you can and should update to latest version.

Good luck and have fun!

Awesome thanks! Judging from the guide both methods seem to be fairly painless (I have a system that’s able to get into system restore mode) so I’ll just update to latest before going CFW.

You can update the firmware of the 3ds from the system settings as normal, you don't need to the recovery mode to do that.
so I’ll just update to latest before going CFW.
So you don't want to follow the Soundhax method? You want to follow Seedminer instead?
Like Kleines said, you can update to the latest firmware version after you install cfw following soundhax, so there's no need to do that (updating it before installing cfw).

Hey, can anyone answer this question for me? I recently dropped my XL and it broke the top screen. I recently found a deal to get a launch model for 40 bucks. Is it possible to transfer from a 3ds XL to a launch model?

So I've been getting used to Homebrew and everything seems to be working fine - but the one exception is getting any of the GBA Gen 3 Pokemon games working with PKSM if I inject it into the Virtual Console GBA emulator

I followed the 3DS hacks guide to install Luna, Godmode and everything, all of that works fine. My 3DS model is an EU New 3DS standard

PKSM works wonderfully with my other Pokemon titles on 3DS and I managed to get the Gen 5/6 DS titles working in Twlight Menu after some fiddling about.

I'm using what I believe are clean ROM versions of the original games in English, now I did try to inject them a few times and was having trouble getting the title ID recognised - I deleted these attempts and tried again tonight - but with different title ID's

I finally figured out why Title ID wasn't working (an extra 0 I was missing before the title code) - I put it in and now PKSM can see the games - Great! But the saves are all weird

After adding title ID to PKSM when I try to access the saves I have made it will tell me "First Save Absent" - for Pokemon Emerald it will cause the entire system to crash and give me a detailed error screen with hex details - for Pokemon Red it will load a save that only has the starter I picked in it - the first save I made after booting this copy of the game

If I go back to the games, Emerald will never remember I saved anything - Fire red can see the same save PKSM can access - but if I try to advance and save again it will give the "there's an existing save" message it would give if it sees a new game trying to save over the existing saved adventure

I tried pointing PKSM to the title's save file in the 3ds/titles folder and it will just tell me those .sav files are invalid - What have I done wrong and how do I get these games working?

Save data for virtual console injections is stored in the NAND and can only be accessed via Godmode9 – so you would have to use Godmode9 before and after anytime you wanted to change the data with PKSM, You should use open_agb_firm to run GBA games instead.
