The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - gameplay demonstration, limited edition Switch OLED

Nintendo has given fans a long-awaited update on the status of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As of today, development has wrapped up, meaning the game is on track for its May launch. The ten minutes of gameplay shows some exploration of Hyrule, new powers that Link has, and the new Sky Islands. Weapon degradation makes a return, but you can now fuse random items together to create weapons with better durability; enemies can do this as well. Arrows can also be fused to have new elemental effects, and homing arrows can be made as well. "Ultrahand" is an ability that lets you stick items together--for example, you can stick three large logs and two fans together to create a boat, with seemingly lots of crafting potential to play around with. Another new gameplay element called ascend allows you to rocket up to a ceiling and go through it to the top of wherever you are.

Nintendo also used the opportunity to reveal a Tears of the Kingdom limited edition Nintendo Switch OLED console. Like most Nintendo limited edition systems, it does not come with the game, though it releases just a little earlier than Tears of the Kingdom, with a release date of April 28th.

The whole concept of making a console themed around a game and not actually coming with said game is still ridiculous to me and I wish Nintendo would stop doing that.

Now in terms of the game itself, it looks absolutely sick and I'm definitely getting it day one! I didn't even watch the whole video (I wanna discover some things for myself), but I'm already sold on this being a good game :)

Yeah, not including the game with the actual limited edition console is a bit of a low blow. I understand that consoles nowadays are sold at a loss, but in Nintendo's case, they could just up the price of the console and let the customer swallow it, because they can and they will, especially for high profile titles like these.

If resale is a concern, then just make it a digital copy so it can only be linked once to their own Nintendo account. Cuts the cost of the cartridge and packaging and whatnot as well, and digital licenses cost virtually nothing to provide besides a byte on their server database.

$90 price tag in Canada. Over $100 with tax. In no world will I pay $100 to play a game.

As for the OLED... WHY DOESN'T IT COME WITH THE GAME? HUH???? What's the point?

Also, the collector's editions selling out while the site barely functions is such a Nintendo thing to happen. Can't believe it's 2023 and this is still an issue.

Is the Switch REALLY sold at a loss? It's very, very dated tech.

First party game are going to be in that price range now on, just something we have to deal with.

And I thought the $80 ($90 with tax) price range was already insane. $100 is just ludicrous and Nintendo has guaranteed that I will never, ever buy a first party game at MSRP if this is the new norm.

Well all three major platform games are starting to be 69.99 USD, also Switch first party games rarely goes on sale, so you won't really see it under MSRP that much.
