The equivalent of a Zelda Direct is airing tomorrow. Nintendo has announced that they'll be uploading a video that features ten minutes of gameplay from the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with series producer Eiji Aonuma hosting. The video will go live on March 28 at 7am PT on Nintendo's official YouTube channel.

but what is the point of buy switch then? only if you don't play on switch at all
I have a Switch and the only Zelda I truly liked was A Link to the Past.
There are more games on the Switch other than Zelda and Mario.
Like how people praise the game, there will be it's detractors and those that are completely indifferent to it.

Not excited, but will watch as I'm still interested in Zelda.

Haven't played BotW, but... man I wish to see Hookshot make a comeback, it's my fave item in all Zelda games that has it.

I think they will release it on wiiu but I cannot back that up, i hope you data dump guys can scraggle around the assets some; and unbury some wiiu sprites or whatever it is the hell you do.

I'm just going to say now that that is not going to happen. I will eat my hat if that happens. Also if you are not sold on a Switch I don't think you will at this point. It's in it's 6th year at this point.

The stamina system I never really had an issue with, the weapon durability system just needs a rework I would say, and I don't understand the idea of not knowing where to go. Isnt that like the entire point of the game? You have 1 marker on your map almost at all times for main quests, and other than that you do whatever you want.
If that's "the entire point of the game", then the entire point is about getting lost, not knowing where to find the content, getting frustrated, and looking up an online map to actually find the content in that bleepin' game else you're gonna waste valuable time stumbling around blind, reliant on only what is visible atop towers.
Defeats the point - just tell me where to find stuff straight-up!

Ghost of Tsushima/Skyrim/Assassin's Creed/Horizon (I'm guessing)/Hellblade (also guessing) >>> BotW.
You can never not know how to find the content, in those games, aside from a few collectibles (which don't really count).

See what you just described is where a bunch of people find their enjoyment. The joy a lot of people find is exploring and finding new things that they didn't know about. The world is designed for you to get lost in. Honestly one of the things I hate most about a lot of modern games is how hand-holdy then tend to be. Botw is very much about just exploring around and discovery.

Having play every Zelda and Mario game, I respectfully disagree.
Also, The Minish Cup > A Link to the Past

Bring on the Zelda tier-list wars :D

I never understood the complaint about the durability system. Its entire purpose is to get you to have a varied arsenal during your time through the game, as well as reinforcing the theme of survival. You slowly improve your stash of weapons, using stronger ones in tougher moments while burning through the weaker ones on cannon fodder. Slash slash crash, whip out a new one.

Now, if you want to hear actual complaints on the weapons system: One complaint I had was the "super weapons" from the champions should have functioned like the Master Sword. Once you earned them, they should have had cooldowns. That would have given some sense of progression without undermining the durability system too much.

Another is that the actual weapon variety that we had which was useful was a little on the stale side. I hope we see more types of weapons while otherwise continuing the system. Have each one be slightly more diverse than before. If Nintendo can make Kirby be massively diverse, we should be able to have at least twice the variants of simple arms in this new game. They're creative folks!

So, yeah... weapons breaking all the time is fine. I enjoyed that part of the game. The negatives I experienced were a need for a bit more variety in the available options, "super weapons" only applying to Master Sword, and maybe give us a few more storage slots because even when maxed it occasionally felt like I had too few; due to the elemental variants and stuff.

The problem with equipment fragility is that it makes every weapon feel worthless and replaceable, since it's just going to break in a few hits - so rewarding players for defeating tough foes (that they likely used a large number of weapons on, maybe even broke a few shields) with new weaponry doesn't feel very rewarding, nor does finding a hidden weapon.

Not only that, but it actively discourages fighting, since you'll be using up more resources than you're likely to earn doing so - and guess what, there's a ton of combat in this game.

Plenty of other games had a varied arsenal without needing to rely on the player-hostile crutch that is durability, so why not BotW? Or heck, Minecraft has breakable gear too, except it gives its higher-tier stuff hundreds of usages - and ways to repair damaged gear. If durability must be a thing, why not do that too?

At least triple the durability counts already in-game, and provide players with ways to repair their weapons and shields - and to pass on useful equipment skills to new things, as well.

I don't really understand this pattern of automatically complaining about asset re-use as making a game too much like a DLC.

Re-using assets allows a developer to focus on creating additional new assets to create a more varied experience overall. It also allows more room to create a longer game with less development time.

Good example, God of War Ragnarok. It improves on 2018 *because* it reuses assets. Because they didn't have to spend a bunch of time perfectly crafting models for characters that are already in the game, they were able to create lots of new characters. As a result, the complaints about enemy variety went away, and the story was longer with more zones and more high-quality side quests.

There's a big difference between lazily reusing assets, and reusing assets purposefully. Tears of the Kingdom strikes me as the latter. Of course, only time will tell when actually playing the game, though.
Dude. It's LITERALLY THE SAME WORLD. It's as lazy as it gets.

I think I read somewhere that BotW's "crit up" weapon skill was considered, by the game's coding, as a mid-tier skill, while the "thrown weapon damage up" skill had a higher priority - so as you kill more enemies and thus level up dropped weapons, the lower chance you had of getting something with "crit up" and the more likely you were to get the significantly worse throwing-weapon skill.

Yet another reason why weaponry needs to be overhauled in Tears...
