The equivalent of a Zelda Direct is airing tomorrow. Nintendo has announced that they'll be uploading a video that features ten minutes of gameplay from the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with series producer Eiji Aonuma hosting. The video will go live on March 28 at 7am PT on Nintendo's official YouTube channel.

This is more like a big DLC, game seems to use ressources of BOTW...
That's generally how game development goes. Reuse what you can whenever you can. I mean nearly every AAA game running in unreal uses tons of the stock assets from the market.

I mean I've played every game in this series to completion. Even without this I would have already bought it. I was excepting them to just leave us with what we had.

Didn't care for the first one, don't care about this so called sequel either.
Then consider yourself fortunate. That's hundreds of hours that you can spend doing something else you enjoy. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go get ready for this Showcase and spend some time with my family. Who know when they'll see me again after May 12th.

Well this pretty much confirms no more delays, not that I was expecting any more this close to release but it has happened before with other games. Won’t be watching it either way because I’m trying to avoid as many spoilers as possible.

That's a good way to look at things (currently TRYING to play thru DQ Treasures, but I usually arrive home too late and too tired to play).

In any case I hope you and others find BOTW2 enjoyable.

Open world games just aren't for me (and I really don't think of BOTW as a Zelda game...)

How is it not the same? Majora's Mask was developed in a year and reused most assets. Tears of the Kingdom was developed in 6 years and uses the same assets. I don't mind the argument that this game feels like an expansion, but you have to be consistent with your opinions.

It's 2023...
I'm starting to think this isn't the real Hideo Kojima.

Thats great, but I won't be watching it. I've already had the experience of absorbing every bit of detail I could prior to botw and spoiling so much of it, so I want to go into totk as blind as i can. The trailers were enough, I'm gonna play it, so ten minutes of gameplay isn't something I want to see. I really hope I can remain unspoiled until release.

Did you tried it ?
Before BoTW I never really liked open world games and it's the first one that clicked hard with me. It became the benchmark of how I like my open worlds, and it allowed me to appreciate what others do right or wrong because I knew that the genre could be « good », at least in my opinion. Hence why I'm asking.

I don't really understand this pattern of automatically complaining about asset re-use as making a game too much like a DLC.

Re-using assets allows a developer to focus on creating additional new assets to create a more varied experience overall. It also allows more room to create a longer game with less development time.

Good example, God of War Ragnarok. It improves on 2018 *because* it reuses assets. Because they didn't have to spend a bunch of time perfectly crafting models for characters that are already in the game, they were able to create lots of new characters. As a result, the complaints about enemy variety went away, and the story was longer with more zones and more high-quality side quests.

There's a big difference between lazily reusing assets, and reusing assets purposefully. Tears of the Kingdom strikes me as the latter. Of course, only time will tell when actually playing the game, though.

You guys are weird. Arguing about content reuse etc. Meanwhile I'm over here genuinely looking forward to a game that takes "revisit this familiar area but in a totally different way" seriously. There's so much that can be done, and having played a lot of DLC, this can never feel like DLC. DLC is always shallow, always disconnected. This is a sequel. A sequel done in a modern and realistic way. That's going to be awesome.

And I'm with that guy above. I won't be watching this trailer. I already feel like I know too much about Legend of Zelda: Above and Below, Nuts and Bolts Edition. Better off going in blind like I mostly did with BotW. Gonna be awesome, only about 5-7 weeks depending on leak date.

People will lose their minds in a bad way. Nintendo is doing a sequel to a phenomenal game, it is an extremely hard task to do something as good as Breath of The Wild, and since it's is Nintendo the drama will put the internet on fire.
"good"

Just get rid of the fucking frustrating and utterly pointless equipment fragility system already, along with limited stamina and having no goddamn idea where to go next. Those were my biggest pet peeves with BotW, since I doubt they'll repeat the Korok Seed bullshit again.
Also, add some proper-ass Zelda dungeons back in, you hacks, who have seemingly forgotten what made this series so FUN in the past.

The stamina system I never really had an issue with, the weapon durability system just needs a rework I would say, and I don't understand the idea of not knowing where to go. Isnt that like the entire point of the game? You have 1 marker on your map almost at all times for main quests, and other than that you do whatever you want.
