Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Those that subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online will be able to play Game Boy games on their Switch, later today. Tetris, Super Mario Land 2, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, Gargoyle's Quest, Game & Watch Gallery 3, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, Metroid II, Wario Land 3 and Kirby's Dreamland will all be available. You can use various filters to mimic the look of various versions of Game Boy. Online play is supported, too.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Ages, Pokemon: TCG, Kirby's Tilt and Tumble, and more are on the way later.

GBA games can be played by those who are a part of the NSO Expansion Pack. Those games today are, Super Mario Advance 4, WarioWare Inc., Kuru Kuru Kururin, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, and Zelda: The Minish Cap. Games like Metroid: Fusion, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, F-Zero Maximum Velocity, Fire Emblem, and Golden Sun will come later.

It´s GB and GBA with online coop, that's awesome. What´s wrong with you people??
the relationship between GBATemp community and Nintendo is complicated...

Many were watching the Direct live, in order to not miss anything, then, 5 seconds after the direct, they already were here talking "Yo, get a steam deck already, the all mighty switch killer, or just emulate gameboy on your granny's vibrator"

I believe it's a strong love, but a strong refusal to admit.

Instead of getting another port super mario 3 they should have added wario land 4
Yeah we have three different ways of playing that on Switch now, all of them via NSO. Which still isn't as bad as Sonic 1 (NSO, Genesis Collection, standalone Sonic 1, and Sonic Legacy Collection or whatever)

If they ever add a GameCube service (really not counting on it, but ya never know) I hope they allow it to connect with other Switchs running the GBA channel so that we can properly wireless experience those multiple screen experiences of the past. The thought of 4 people with Switchs and Switch Lites all portable connected to a 5th Switch on a TV and playing 4 Swords Adventures or Crystal Chronicles as they were meant to be, in this modern age just makes me happy haha.

They´re idiots. Every retro thing can be run in emulators, that´s not the point. The point is people have now more options to play and live again their childhood.

Watching this live, I bursted out laughing when I saw gba locked behind the NSO expansion. It's good they put gameboy on there for all the casuals that wait for Nintendo to drip feed them the games they want to play, but tying GBA to a premium tier subscription service with N64 is just laughable and a smack to the face. And people still eat it up.

Wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take 6 years to finally arrive. Hard to believe the Wii U added GBA 2 years after its launch and it took them this long for the Switch.

It's not like adding more systems to the Online expansion makes the price of online increase. I welcome anything more they want to add to the expansion, even if the GBA on Switch holds little to no value to you, it's still more content when they could continue to not offer anything more at all.

It would be great if all those Online Features works with CGNAT. CGNAT is rapidly expanding and it's only a matter of time before everyone and their dog wouldn't be able to use the multiplayer feature online anymore.

Nintendo is a hard company to love, I'd rather be into the steam deck but the heart wants what it wants :rofl2: I'm just glad I like the older systems best so I know exactly what to expect. GB/A are my favorites so I'm happy for the families & whales on NSO.
I will also be interested to see how the Advance Wars & Metroid remasters turn out.

The issue is that Nintendo killed the Switch. It was one thing when they were just doing re-releases of Wii U games, but now they're doing low-effort remasters of GBA, 3DS, and GCN games instead of making new ones too. Yeah a lot of people like those games...that's why they bought them the first time around. I for one won't be buying them a second time, though, and some aren't even worth the effort to pirate.

The expectation was that by combining their portable and home console divisions into one, the release schedule would be far more packed. Instead it's more sparse than ever, and they can only blame COVID-19 for so long.
