Xbox 360 emulator "Xenia" gets a UWP port for Xbox Series S/X

The homebrew scene for the Xbox Series consoles is increasing bit by bit, and with it comes a whole array of emulators for the console, slowly becoming the preferred console for emulation of all current consoles of the generation.

For some time now, the Xbox Series consoles have been compatible with custom builds of RetroArch in UWP format, with a way to side load it be it through Dev Mode or through some more iffy method to load it as a normal app outside of Dev mode, effectively bringing almost all retro systems up to the PlayStation 2, Dreamcast and GC/Wii to the Series console. Alongside it, there has been a recent port in UWP format of the standalone Dolphin emulator, which brought the most recent and up-to-date features of Dolphin into the Series consoles compared to the outdated core that RetroArch used for Dolphin.

Now, yet another emulator joins the list of current available systems to play on the Series, with the addition of the Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia, getting a UWP port by SirMangler. The current backwards compatibility service that Xbox implemented some time ago for the Series S/X has started to announce the delisting of several games from the service. With this emulator, players which have the desire to play their beloved Xbox 360 classics that are getting delisted, or aren't currently available on the service, can now enjoy them on the Series via Xenia (given the game has the proper compatibility on the emulator).

People interested in the emulator can check out the latest UWP release of Xenia on SirMangler's GitHub.

I can't be the only one who thinks that microsoft would of banned xenia from being installed because it sort of ruins their business?

They've been banning emulators and unofficial ports and people keep reuploading them. They also been applying temporary bans to users who upload screenshots of emulators and such ports.

They won't go further an close what enables this to happen because they know that if they close off the system, they'd generate a more powerful incentive to jailbreak the console aside plain piracy.

Playstation 5 on Xbox Series X 2 when

When Valve learns to count to 3.

Honestly I don't see Microsoft doing much about this, as they already gave the people the power to do this kind of stuff for $20 easily. And that's to completely allow you access to sideloading any emulators basically, so the fact they've been so consumer-friendly with backwards compatibility over all these years recently and allowing so many big hitters to still be playable and only drawing the line at games where licenses are impossible to get or too expensive due to multiple licenses like with the musical games like Rock Band.

I'd wager that Microsoft people are actually supportive of this.

It allows the library of the x360 to be playable, without restrictions, given that the emulator is able to.

It's a compelling selling point.

A fix for the retail canary build has been released for anyone who has had trouble with the app crashing. The fix is on the xbox emulation discord group 👌
Got to grab this... so far I've had about 50/50 success on the first release, but testing only XBLA games - many run pretty much perfectly, but the only one I could get to play which isn't available via BC was Worms (and remastered GoldenEye, which crashes midway through the first level as has been shown. Rez HD crashes pretty early, Worms Armageddon runs seemingly well until OS is needed. Think all the others, non-bc, didn't even boot).
A couple of games have slowdown (but many are pretty much full speed!), and obviously anything that requires the OS crashes (text entry etc), but it's amazingly good. Never tried the PC version of Xenia actually, was only expecting it to run 1 or 2 games using a high end RTX card haha, colour me impressed!

I would like to have a Wii U and OG Xbox Emulators on my SX

I don't see why emulators like Xemu wouldn't run on the Series consoles.
I think the only thing missing for OG Xbox on Series would be a proper UWP port of it.
Cemu would be a whole different story though, I'm not sure how well Wii U games would run if a Cemu port to UWP were to come by, but it'd be interesting to see nonetheless.

Now hear me out...

oh, yeah, the links are back up last time I was there. I'll probably wait till the app matures more to install an update. the app will update automatically as long as the app is still on the store, which doesn't seem to be the case here as they were offline yesterday.

you evil motherfucker.
the funny part is that even if Nintendo were to Sue Xbox for this, they'd still lose since Micro$oft is infinitely bigger and greedier than nintendo will ever become

Then Microsoft would be like:
"Oh is that so? Well good luck developing your games on other OS you dumbshits!"

It is free, if you just download these from the Store.
