16-year-old claims to have hacked Nintendo's developer portal, leaks 50GB of files

saddsaadsasdadsds.png

A fledgling hacker appears to have taken advantage of a lack of security on Nintendo's official developer portal, leading to the leak of over 50 gigabytes of internal files relating to the Nintendo NX, development tools, SDKs, and more. The hacker happens to be a 16-year-old, stating that they have little to no actual hacking experience. but still managed to have gotten credentials to a Nintendo developer account, and used it to grab whatever they could off the CDN, and then extract the proprietary compressed files. According to them, the leak contains:

- Documents related to the inner workings of the NX system (NX is the codename for Nintendo Switch)
- Development tools related to game development of Nintendo (NintendoSDK and Unity for NX)
- Source code related to tools by Nintendo that are used in many Nintendo Switch games!
- Backend code for Nintendo networking (NPLN, NEX, Pia)
- And a whole lot more (graphics, files, etc.)

This is so obviously fake lol, I'm pretty sure you can download everything from the dev portal if you have and account and request access for switch stuff, which anyone can do. This article was just made to fool idiots, I don't even see a source
Not to mention this isn't even on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours

Ha, "Please remember that GBAtemp does not allow the sharing of copyrighted content." gives me deja vu, if you know what I mean...

Lol he's 16, dude; dark hackers 3 times his age regularly turn white. I wouldn't count him out just yet...
That's a shitty excuse, when I was 16 I knew right from wrong, I knew breaking into other people's stuff is wrong whether it be in the real world or in the cyber world, as is taking things that didn't belong to me. It's one thing to have necessary evil to combat evil corruption, but this isn't even that. This kid doesn't even have a life yet, and I know he knows what he is doing is shady and wrong, he isn't stupid, though he did make a stupid choice, maybe he can reflect on this later in life hopefully.

Or the whole article could be made up...
Either way though

Well it isn't April yet, so I'm not sure why it would be posted if it's fake in some manner. Sure mistakes could happen but...though sure lack of sources can be questionable to say the least. It's making its rounds in other places of the net so I'm not sure at this point.

1. So let me get this straight, this kid doesn't have a lot of hacking experience, managed to get into the development portal, breaking a federal law at the end of the day, but was dumb enough to reveal stuff like his age. You know some people are smart, we've had literal geniuses become criminals...but even they at least don't reveal stuff like this, they may have made a mistake, but this isn't even a mistake, why does it matter what the age is anyways? Is this supposed to be a funny jab at Nintendo's security? I don't find it funny, I question the kid honestly and his capabilities, which leads to my second point.

2. Why the hell are people dumb enough to misuse their capabilities like this, why not help the world, be more beneficial rather than a problem? This kid could be a security analyst if he plays his cards right and advances his capabilities, he could even be the next big technological inventor that impacts humanity in a positive manner, but nope....let's just misuse capabilities to do wrong doings right? "Hardy har har, it's fun." but it's also really stupid.

Humanity sometimes is questionable, I can't comprehend half the actions many seem to condone regularly, and it's rising drastically in the numbers where that's concerned, that is concerning. If this is out of spite, it's not right, we should be better than this as people.
Yea if 16, even at that age I knew better, but age will matter a lot, I’ve looked at a lot of cases (what’s publicly known anyway) for misuse of information technology, young kids usually don’t get the book thrown at them in most cases. But I don’t understand the point of bragging , or leaking files. I’ve always been surprised that some of what are considered “big” cyber criminals, use really simple methods. But this begs the question as to why their simple methods keep being effective.

I do not actually, I can't keep up with all the article sites anymore, it's even becoming more difficult to find trust in most places. Even if it is fake, one of the reasons I brought up what I did is because years ago I knew of a 13 year old kid with decent coding experience, unfortunately years later he took that knowledge and misused it for something similar to this. Haven't heard from him since then, but what I do know is, having that mistake repeat itself in another person is never a good thing.

Fact that this is fake, found this in similar threads section: https://gbatemp.net/threads/anyone-can-now-sign-up-for-the-nintendo-developer-portal.433637/
And I alr knew this, now I have something to back it up
These documents don't seem very confidential...
I forgot this existed, well if this truly is fake news, then I'm in the wrong for being so quick to jump in on it, I just didn't like seeing another youngling doing stuff like this, envisioning my own kiddos in the future doing stuff like this would be devastating for their lives, that's why I tend to take these situations more seriously when younger people get involved. Adults are adults, they are responsible for their own actions, kids, at least in the case of 16 can make the decision to do right and wrong, but I also know they are still learning, I just know that there are certain things you shouldn't do regardless of the matter, and that's why I can't brush it off as if it's nothing personally.

I would've done this before if I was smarter. I even have an account on there man!
Nintendo straight out refused my request for a developer account.:hateit:
They said I could apply again whenever I had released multiple games on multiple other platforms.
Nintendo is just a bunch of idiots blinded by big money.

I tried signing up 3 months ago.
It's true that anyone can sign up but that doesn't mean you get granted access to the developer portal.
I applied on a personal account as an Indie developer and with my corporate email but in both instances they just refused to make an account. Even with providing documents that I have published several games in the past.

Ok a few things about this leak. First this data has been leaked various times, it is just the Switch SDK (Probably newer than the versions floating around). Second this is Nintendo's fault they were apparently using stolen logins for a Developer or something.

geeze this is great Protecting my IP their ass they cant even protect their network and being 16 gives him a legal edge cause being a minor means not the full extent of the law is normally used (unless like he hacked the pentagon or something then all protection is off the table)

Why? Nothing suggests they'll need a system update because of this..
It doesn't directly, but from the past leaks Nintendo has always made an update in response
Hell probably the same 16yr old that cracked into G-shade to find out it had malware and now the team shut it down for good.
