I just got a New 2DS XL to replace my three-years-broken-and-untouched o3DS XL. I used my old 32 GB microSD and was able to use Luma CFW just fine, but realized I wanted a bigger microSD to hold more games, so I bought a 64 GB officially licensed by Nintendo Legend of Zelda 64GB SanDisk microSD. I bought the card from CVS Pharmacy, so I figured I could be confident it isn't a counterfeit. But when I copied all of the files from my 32 to my 64, it tells me "cannot detect microSD card". I've formatted the 64GB as fat32 with both 32kb and 64kb partition sizes (and copied the files back in, of course) but the same error results either way. Besides the addition of some games in the Nintendo 3DS folder (I've tried the process both with and without this folder), the SD card is pretty much unchanged from the way it should be at the end of the 3ds.guide CFW installation guide. What should I do to make the microSD card usable?

Godmode9 and Luma CFW both boot up with no issues, and I can navigate the sdCard from Godmode9.

Ah, nevermind! I just used the native Godemode9 formatting option, and that fixed it! Sorry for the unnecessary post! If anyone else is having this issue, do the follow:

Format an SD card

Note that this will erase the contents of your SD card!
https://3ds.hacks.guide/godmode9-usage.html
  1. Launch GodMode9 by holding (Start) during boot
  2. Press (Home) to bring up the action menu
  3. Select “More…”
  4. Select “SD format menu”
  5. Select any EmuNAND options you wish to use
  6. Select “Auto”
  7. Press (A) to accept the label GM9SD
  8. When prompted, input the key combo given to confirm
After doing this, hit the home button to return to the home menu, where the Nintendo 3DS will set-up the SD Card itself. Then, re-copy the contents of your original SD card to the new one. It seems like this process force-starts Write Protection, so if that's the case, follow this guide to fix the issue before copying over the necessary files.

Your 64 GB microSD should work properly now. :)

Test the card with h2testw.
The problem is fixed, like I said in the merged OP, don't worry! Thanks!

I just don't understand why the post is being called lazy out of nowhere.

Because you was having troubles trying to get the SD card to work in your 3DS, then afterwards you found out the solution.
But that isn't lazy... I found the solution, and then included detailed step-by-step instructions so anyone else facing the same issue can solve it too.

At least that was helpful, but I'd prefer if you tried looking up other solutions first before making a thread about it. Personally, I think its just a waste of time otherwise.

I did look up solutions. I tried multiple solutions, I said in the post I tried every solution I found online. I'm sorry you don't like this thread, but that doesn't warrant you coming in here and calling me lazy. I tried every solution I could find, posted the thread, and then kept trying different solutions. Is trying new solutions AFTER making a thread lazy? I figured continuing to try to fix my own problem after asking the question would be the opposite of lazy, it'd be proactive. Would you have preferred I just stopped trying to fix the issue because I made a thread?

personally its good people ask for help on a forum, but then figure it out and then also post how they did it for someone else to be able to find. far from being a lazy post in fact the complete opposite

I can agree with that

It being a licensed card just means you paid extra for a nintendo logo. Otherwise identical to a non–licensed card of the same brand and model
They're considered to be the definition of a 'ripoff'. It works the same as the non-licensed ones, so what's even the point of buying the licensed ones? Sounds like corporate greed to me.

I wouldn't have ever bought the Nintendo one if it cost extra, don't worry! I only bought it because it cost the same! :P
:rofl2: Just saying! If they cost the same to you then that would mean lower margins for the Nintendo ones so as to accommodate all the licensing fees etc, but still more money overall thanks to psychology.

also I almost got a mario one at 17 cause I thought they were optimized for the switch or something. Lol

Im just surprise that you never fully tested the card, should always fully test the card regardless where you get the card, beside you be wasting money buying a legend of zelda branded sd card, when you should have gotten a regular SD card, you could have gotten a larger card for the same price.

I've said it twice in the thread, the Zelda SD card costed the same as a regular SD card of the same size from the same brand.

Actually you over spent when you shop at CVS Pharmacy. Seriously who the hell buy SD card from Pharmacy, obviously it is overprice at $24.99 compare to Amazon at $11.40. What I was saying if you just buy a non Nintendo branded SD card you can get higher capacity at the same price probably.
