Hello and Welcome!
I bought second PS3 for boosting online trophies. It's with 4.87. There is no more info in system tab but there is a Cobra Ferrox logo on the bootscreen so it's CFW. I want to go online but how to do it? There is system update available. Should I install it directly over CFW?

Installed apps:
reActPSN Uknown CFW
PSN Patch 2017.02/B
PSLIGHT Toggle QA Flag
mmCM

PS3 Model: 2504B with 320GB HDD

I can use brand new HDD or SSD if required. What's next? Thanks in advance. Links are welcome.

Thank you. How do I know what type of CFW is installed (CEX, DEX, PEX) and when Toggle QA Flag is active? Once I click on it the console reboots.

Ok. Installed 4.89.3 PEX and there is a lot of CFW tools in menu. So, can I format HDD now and start playing with retail blu-ray games? I'll switch off SysCalls and clear history (first option in PSN Tools). Or should I keep those old apps from 2017?

you can switch off syscalls and clear history in cfw settings, so no need to use old tools for this. that should work, yes. if you're wanting to be on cfw and still do things legitimately, I'd check if the console is banned by simply trying to sign in.

Thank you. It's not banned. At least not yet. I'm playing online for few hours now. I think I don't need CFW on this console. Is there a safe way to install oficcial firmware and keep playing with no risk? Or just keep it as is and clear history on every boot? I need second console just for 4 games but it might take a long while.

best way is to disconnect from the internet, install ofw, then format the hdd, but you may not want to do that if you care about saves and trophies. getting banned on the ps3 is somewhat rare, but it still does happen. and, sony bans both system and account. it happened to me actually like five years ago.

how about sync your trophies, and put your saves on a flash drive? that might work, though some saves are copy protected, which you can remove with apollo iirc.

I'm not going to sync trophies on the cfw console. I bought it for some multiplayer boost (to play online with my primary account on the second ofw console with both retail games). All's good. No ban so far. Three games to go.

Thank you all :)
