Hey everyone,

I'm just getting into emulation but have already setup multiple emulators with great success. Dolphin has been giving me low frame rates when the game starts, around 18fps and it speeds up to 60fps but drops like I have a bottleneck. My cpu is barely utilized around 15% and gpu is around 50%. This happens with all backends but directx11 and Vulcan work the best. The games I'm trying to run are need for speed underground and underground 2. No matter where the resolution is and graphics setting are, it's always the same low fps performance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dolphin is the latest development build. Previously tried latest beta but same results.

PC specs:
Ryzen 5 5600g
16gb 3600 ram
with 4gb being reserved to gpu
1tb nvme ssd

I don't know if I can help, but I can offer some stuff for you to look into.
Does your Ryzen 5 5600g come with a integrated gpu? Since I didnt see one.
If it does did you verify the minimum specs to run Dolphin using that particular cpu?
System requirements
Personal Computer[9][17]
MinimumRecommended
Operating system
CPUx86-64 CPU[12] with SSE2 support.[9]

AArch64[13]
Intel: Intel Core i5-4670K or equivalent.
AMD: Any Ryzen CPU or newer.[9]

Snapdragon 8cx or equivalent[19]
Memory2 GB RAM or more[9]
Graphics hardwarePixel Shader 3.0, and Direct3D 10 or OpenGL 3 support[17]Modern Direct3D 11.1, OpenGL 4.4, or Vulkan GPU[9]
Input device(s)Any PC input device – mouse and keyboard by default for Wii, mouse by default for GameCubeOriginal Nintendo GameCube controller with Smash Bros. Wii U USB adapter[20]

Original Nintendo Wii Remote via DolphinBar[21]

Straight from the wiki.

If you did in fact verify the minimums (just covering bases here), did you check any other games to make sure its not just those games giving you issues as every game is different and it might just be a specific setting that the game needs to raise the fps.

Dolphin can be finicky, and usually it's some stupid setting that you can change in the per game config for each game as needed.
Dolphin has it's own wiki so I would check the config options that others may have tried there to verify yours is similar to first get a good framerate:

And since this post was a while ago and it hasnt been updated hopefully you already figured it out and didnt need my help! :D

I think another reason why it has bad performance is because it's running off of a iGPU.
I have had much better luck using a dedicated GPU.

I have same setup as you works perfectly. You might want to check out if it works better with Vulkan

Hello! It's great to hear that you've had success with multiple emulators. As for the low frame rates in Dolphin, here are a few things you could try:

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your GPU. Outdated drivers can cause performance issues.

Check your power settings. Some power-saving modes can limit your system's performance, including its ability to run emulators smoothly.

Disable any background programs that may be using up resources. This could include anti-virus software, media players, or any other programs that are running in the background.

Try using the latest stable version of Dolphin instead of the development build. While the development build has more features and bug fixes, it may not be as stable as the stable version.

Check the Dolphin settings. For example, try disabling the "Use Fullscreen" option or adjusting the "Backend" setting.

Consider using a different graphics backend. While Direct3D 11 and Vulkan are generally good choices, they may not work well on all systems. You could try using OpenGL or Direct3D 12 instead.

Experiment with the graphics settings in Dolphin. For example, try lowering the internal resolution, turning off anti-aliasing, or adjusting other settings to reduce the workload on your GPU.

I hope these suggestions help you improve your performance in Dolphin. Good luck and happy gaming!
