Hi guys! So I am not sure about this one hence why I am asking but is it possible to boot into SysNAND with atmosphere enabled and play legit games online while using sys-modules?

Thing is I don't pirate my switch games. But I love modding my console(installing ubuntu/android/theming HOS etc.)

But this has been nagging me for a long while now but I want to play games like splatoon and smash bros while using my Sony DualShock controller. But this is only possible if I use missioncontrol while on atmosphere.

So would doing this be a guaranteed ban or not? I am only aware that installing NSPs, cheats & save file editing would result in a guaranteed ban but I'm not sure about sys-modules at all hence this thread.

Thanks in advance if somebody could enlighten me.

I guess it depends on what Nintendo can see. I'm sure they'd ban anyone on atmosphere, piracy or not, if they could detect it.
Not really. I have been booting atmosphere on sysnand while playing online for years now and haven't been banned up to now. But then I am only using a single homebrew app in it to copy my saves to emunand.

So in short, I can boot to sysnand with atmosphere enabled and launch a homebrew(nro) app.

The question is would running a sys-module be as safe or not?

Like I said, they probably can't detect it. If they could, I'm sure they'd ban anyone.

Ok I'll rephrase my question a bit then... Would running a sys-module be detectable for a ban?
SciresM himself runs CFW (Atmosphere) Online regularly without issues. He doesn’t pirate and he doesn’t do mods. He’s never been banned. I’m pretty certain Ninty can detect Atmosphere but nobody has been banned for it thus far.

https://rentry.org/AvoidSwitchBan

What will get you banned

  • Modifying Online Games.
    • Cheating in online games.
    • Using layeredfs mods with online games.
    • Editing save files for online games.
  • Making modifications to your SysNAND.
    • Installing nsp/nsz/xci/xczfiles.
      • Installing homebrew forwarders will get you banned.
      • Installing game backups will get you banned.
    • Running nro's that modify your SysNAND (Tinfoil Installer, etc.)
    • Using a custom profile picture.
  • Doing the above points on Emunand without using:
    • Exosphere/Incognito.
    • DNS MITM

What MIGHT not get you banned

  • Using CFW.
  • Using cheats in offline games.
  • Running homebrew.
  • Using layeredfs mods for offline games.

A mod that gives you an Online advantage (current or one you might build in the future) will surely get you banned.

A controller mod that doesn’t violate any of the other known bans above may or may not get you banned depending upon the way Ninty feels. They might not ban you for months and then later down the road determine that controller mods are an unfair advantage.

Once you mod and go Online you are assuming some amount of risk. Anything you do once you connect you should consider detectable. It’s their OS. That can do as they please. There is no published rule book and the rules can change without notice. Any modifications beyond Stock is low, med or high risk. There is no 0% risk once you hack. Anybody that tells you that you are 100% safe is misinformed.

This is the part where you have to weigh the risk vs the reward and decide for yourself what you want to do

Yeah, I get the part about Nintendo deciding to ban whatever mods we want anytime soon. I accepted that reality the moment I bought an SX gear years ago. What I just wanted to know is if running sys-modules would give you that guaranteed ban now (like installing a pirated game and playing it online) or if it's part of the "nobody has been banned yet, but they might soon if Nintendo decides to" category.

Point here is if it's just a 99% or lower chance I get banned then I'm willing to risk it. But if it's a 100% ban then no freaking way I'm doing it :)

I like how @masagrator answered this: rounding to yes or no

https://gbatemp.net/threads/monster-hunter-rise-sysclk-reversenx-tesla-combo-ban.591581/post-9559616

Can you get banned for using those (rounding to yes or no):
Atmosphere - no
MissionControl - no
Tesla - no
ReverseNX - yes (it edits game code which is bannable in every online game)

Note: I’m not trying to drag him into this, just want him to be aware that I’m using his words in vain as an example.

I agree 100% with the sentiment. There’s still some risk for what you propose but for just CFW and Missioncontrol it rounds down to a no.

PS, I’m currently running a “dangerous” live experiment myself. Many have said that upgrading your Nand chip from a 32G to 256G chip would result in a ban. Well, I’ve hiked up my panties and have been playing Online with it since October…so far so good but if I catch a case it will be 100% my own damn fault.

Wow you are literally a god of searching for information... Been searching for different keywords in this forum and never got an answer.
Lots of people regularly play with sys-botbase running for Pokemon SWSH and SV while online, no issues. Just don't play Splat3 or MK8D with a sys module and you'll be fine.
So Splatoon3 & Mario Kart will get you banned huh? Well that's fine. I'm gonna use it for BlazBlu Cross Tag & Dragon Ball games so I guess it's fine :)

So... Finally! I got a direct answer to my question :D

Thanks to you both guys! :D You don't know how happy I am right now. Gonna set this up today.

Looks like I'm late to the party. Just wanted to say that sysmodules are NROs. So the answer is: depends on the sysmodule. If game code is altered, you're screwed. So Edizon is a no-no. Overclocking *could be a problem depending on game (fps matters in FPS and racing games, to name 2 types... but which publishers would think to add checks for a Switch running at non-standard speeds?). I may be paranoid and/or nit-picking, but I wonder if it's possible for there to be a glitch in the module that lets you use a PS controller... detection of a bogus input could be seen as a cheat.
Personally, I'm with Bink on this one. Only homebrew I use on sys emmc, is from the HBmenu to transfer save files, or dump FW and e-shop games to install on emummc.

Engaging in online activities, such as playing games or accessing online services, while on CFW can increase the likelihood of being detected by the console manufacturer. This may result in a ban from online services, rendering your console unable to access certain features or play online games.
