Thanks for your answer. Indeed, opening Retroarch after the Wii U gamepad is disconnected makes my classic controller able to navigate in the menu. This is weird though, "all users control menu" works in some cores and does not in some others. Can't an issue be raised about that ? In works fine in FB Alpha or Mame for instance.

Sure you can add it as an issue on the Retroarch github page
https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/issues just make sure to mark it as WiiU.

Hello. I'm using a Switch Pro Ccntroller connected through Bloopair and that can control the RA ui fine.
I haven't tried with a GC controller.
A couple things you can try..
Have you tried setting up a Menu Toggle? (this probably wont fix your issue but its good to do anyway)
Goto Settings
Goto Input
Goto Hotkeys
Then set Menu Toggle (Controller Combo) to something (if your using a GC controller I guess the Hold Start for 2 secs would work well)
Then save your Retroarch.cfg :D (Main Menu>Configuration File>Save Current Configuration)

Have you tried setting the Controller you want to use to player 1 once your ingame?
Once ingame open the Menu.
Goto Controls
Goto Port 2 Controls
Set Mapped Port to = 1
Then go back to game and see if your Controller will now control the game :D

The reason your having the issue is because the WiiU Gamepad always take priority over other Controllers.
Another dirty way of fixing it is to turn off the WiiU Gamepad before opening Retroarch.. easy way to do that is to take the WiiU Gamepad out of range of the Console then then off the WiiU Gamepad lol
@MaitreLLD isn't that what I said in my post? :P

I updated my Wii u RetroArch from the official page, but now it's saying my name version is 0.78?

I thought it was the .251 version previously. Was it downgraded or am I mistaken?

Best bet is to either download the latest Cores through the Online Updater that's built in to Retroarch or download them from the nighlty build bot here and transfer them manually to your sd card :)

I tried to search the thread but I'm not seeing it-
Does anyone have any tips for getting rumble to work? I've tried the gamepad, Pro Controller, and 8bitdo (via Bloopair) with mGBA specifically and none are working. I don't think I have any other cores/consoles that use rumble to test so I'm not sure if this is a Retroarch setup error or an mGBA setup error. I've tested Drill Dozer and SMA4:SMB3, by enabling rumble in the core settings and then resetting the game. The rumble option appears in the menu (for Mario, it doesn't appear if it's disabled), but activating it does nothing. I also made sure rumble strength is set to 100% in Retroarch main options. Thanks for the help!

Ah, that's a bummer but really not a dealbreaker given I was planning to use it for like... four games? Haha

Some other questions while I'm here:
I'm assuming gyro doesn't work on Wii U, for games like Tilt n Tumble?

Did we ever get a pack of shaders that run well on Wii U, after all of the updates to make Retroarch faster on it?

Thanks for the response!

Gyro: I honestly have no idea, but if your going to try use the mgba core that would be your best bet.
Shaders: there are some Shaders out there some where but they use the Nintys SDK so you'd have to google them ;)

Is each core its own frontend on the Wii U? Each core being a standalone .rpx file.

So if I update using the online updater am I getting the very latest stable version of that core (.rpx file)?

And the dummy core I'm using (quake 2 I think) will still be the old version if I haven't updated it?

What happens if new Retroarch options appear? Will I not see them of in booting Retroarch via the Quake 2 .rpx?

Correct each Core is its own thing, updating through the Online Updater will update the Core to the latest nightly not Stable though.
Yes your Dummy Core will need to be updated too to see new options.

@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
