I would say it isn't safe to run ANY .exe from github, that both warns you of "false positives" and does not provide the source. But that's just me.

As for the keys, you should always use the latest for maximum compatibility. Games that come out months after the latest firmware, will generally require the latest key to decrypt...

hello is it safe to convert my nsp games to nsz format with sak software
XCI should be converted to xcz, and nsp to ncz - they are just compressed and get decompressed during install so it makes no difference as the decompressed installed game is an exact byte for byte copy of what you would have had if you just installed the nsp/xci. All converting does is to save disc space and to make if faster to transfer the game to your switch via wireless or USB etc.

When I using Sak to compress a nsp to nsz I don’t notice that much of a compressed file I’m trying to like get more disk space on my hardrive can I also somehow use winrar or 7zip for make the new nsz file compressed even more into a rar or 7zip file like I might have a 6gb nsp game when I go to convert it to nsp I might get it down to 5.80gb nsz this is just an example

Yes you can "Zip" the nsz file, to get it a little smaller.

'A little' is probably key here. At this point the amount of space you save will likely be tiny.
Yup. You can adjust your compression levels in WinRar/WinZip/7Zip, but you still are not gonna get much smaller. Compressed to nsz is really all you need to bother with for space.

Compressing a nsz file to rar or 7z is useless. The compression algorithm of nsz is more efficient than both of them, for the Switch format, at least. You can increase the compression level up to 22 max. It takes longer to compress, but you'll know you can't compress any better. Not all games compress a lot. It depends on the kind of data. Read more about the options here.

BTW the optimal compression level for Switch is 19, 'cause at 20-21-22 lvls (sometimes..) it's required more than 1 GB of RAM with decompressing, so using applet mode for example is impossible while installing these nszs.

TL;DR always use max 19 level zstd for NSZ, only.

will it make that game not install or work cause i changed the original name
or best just leave it as is when i downloaded it
thanks

Won't matter if you rename it.

rar could be a little more but as the NSP file already have a sort of compression another compression will no provide so much space saving.

converting to NSZ can give more space saving because you are compressing the "original" files using another algorithm which could be more efficient.

Just wondering, but I heard rumors about that you shouldn't convert some DLC NSP files to NSZ files, like DLC unlockers. Is this true?

What compression rate should you use? Fast, Intermeddiate, Average or Hard?

I like the idea of compressing my files without having to pack them into zip or 7z archives, but I would like to know just how reliable the conversion tool (SAK) is. I'm currently on firmware 16.0.2 and can use lockpick rcm to get my keys, but I don't know what'd happen if I try to convert a file that let's say requires firmware 16.0.3 (unlikely, but hypothetically speaking). Do I get a clear error message to inform me the conversion failed or do I get a silent 'success' and a corrupted NSZ file?

Is not shouldn't than you really don't get any benefitsbecaise a 128 kb file will not compress more tha some few bytes

Sak uses official NSZ tool is only a GUI. You also can download NSZ from github if you really like latest one.

16.0.2 and 16.0.3 share the same set of keys

i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling

even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling

LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there

and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
