Hi everyone , I got my oled V4 chip yesterday and before i install in it my switch i see the new 0.7.2 firmware is out . I want to update via usb ribon plug but accidently/my mistake i plug the cabel upside down and now if i plug the chip the correct way the led flash 1sec purple then solid red for a 30 sec then turn of and pc doesn’t recognize anything . This mean i brick the chip ? If i install this chip it will brick my switch or no ? What is the solution in this situation?

Yeah, they explicitly warn to be sure not to plug the USB upside down or you will damage the chip. They printed the word UP on it to avoid confusion. You can try a reset by powering up while shorting the two pads next to the USB port but there’s only a slim chance of this helping. My money is on you needing to get a new one. If you wire this up to your switch I don’t believe it will work but again, it’s worth a shot to see.

e: adding this based on information below…this only impacts the USB port. The rest of the chip is fine and will in fact still glitch properly.

e2: or maybe not?

I assume if the plug is upside down then power/gnd goes to things that aren't able to cope and it dies.

Years ago I saw this with a server after smoke came out, the engineer unplugged the cables and helpfully one of them had a "this side up" sticker on it that nobody had seen. Instead of a "if you can read this, then it's plugged in the wrong way" sticker.

I'm of the same opinion as @xldon2lx , probably it is only the USB interface that got fried, I would still give it a go with an install.

Afterwards, if you really need to flash it, try to do it with ST Link or different dongle (check sthetix videos). And if it still doesn't work, replace the GD32F303RCT6 IC before taking it to the Mount Doom in Mordor.

EDIT: wrong microcontroller model, use the one referred below.

Known design flaw. The D+/D- lines on the GD32 microcontroller are gone. The chip is NOT the one mentioned above, but GD32F350CB.
You can still install the chip and it will still be able to glitch, but you will not be able to use the USB bootloader for diagnostics.

For updating, the hwfly toolbox can still be used.

Replacing the microcontroller is very possible and will restore USB functionality, but this requires the use of an external programmer (st-link, j-link, gd-link, raspberry pi, etc.) to reload both bootloader and firmware.

First of all connect the USB ribbon to the chip, and check if the microcontroller is getting hot.
If yes then you have two options
1) Try to replace the microcontroller, then flash the firmware with STLink flasher
2) Buy a new chip

But if your chip isnt getting hot, then try to install the chip in your console.

Hi guys . Update :

The chip is not working in my oled , just constant red light .
I tried st link programer , the software see the chip but if i take the tick read out protection and apply it the software give me 3 massage :

1. Option bytes successfully programmed
2. Warning : RDP=165 will be ignored as it has allready been midified
3. Warning : RDP=187 will be ignored as it has allready been midified

And the thick is checked .

If i browse bootloader and hit start programing button i got , failed to erase memory error .

What can i do now ?

Sorry for the late reply. I was not able to take notice of this.

1. You should have bought a GDLink instead of an STLink. As per sthetix he has been receiving failure reports with regards to using STLink.

2. Have you tried updating your STLink programmer firmware? I encountered issues with flashing thru STLink before but I manage to fix it by updating its firmware.
