I was trying to install tiramisu on my Wii U as anyone would do, but then I ran into the "Failed to load sd:/wiiu/payload.elf
Starting the console without any modifications" screen. I have all the right files, please help. I have no clue what to do.

On my WiiU, that happens when the SD card is not properly seated on the slot.

This is a secondhand WiiU, checked it before trying to install Tiramisu, but didn't found any leftovers of a mod, so I've followed the install instructions and installed Tiramisu and Aroma. But it seem that the previous owner didn't had much care about the SD card slot and it might be having a bad contact on some pins or it might be dirty, so I have to reseat the SD card when that happens.

It might work on 1 out of 5 times, so unless I need to update something, I just don't extract the SD card from the slot and everything works just fine.

Beside the above, you should consider checking that your SD card is not starting to die.

This has happen to many people, each time, people cannot say why this happen exaclty, and it's has nothing to do with the prior responses (but the 2nd us worth the check)
I had the problem, and 2 others persons two in the forum....But it was a bit difficult to discern the exact pb, I think is was a file on the SD that wasn't up to date. I'm not sure, It might be one of those:
Sd:\wiiu\environments\installer\modules\setup\00_mocha.rpx
G:\wiiu\environments\tiramisu\modules\setup\00_mocha.rpx
G:\wiiu\environments\tiramisu\modules\setup\01_sigpatches.rpx
Also, I recommend erasing prior the files on the Sd then updating with the newest you downloaded.
I'm wondering if it's not a kinda quite rare bug on the partition of some sd cards....can you try that?

I would recommend to not remove the card for updates. Aroma has an FTP Server running in the background, so better use that to update files.

This advise is to protect the slot from further damage.

To the OP: As others said make sure your card is formatted to FAT32 with 32kb sector size. This should be the case, else you wouldn't habe been able to get that far but doesn't hurt to double-check.

In case this doesn't help check your card with https://3ds.hacks.guide/h2testw-(windows).html

Thanks for the advice, but I never connect my WiiU to the internet (or any type of network actually), so no FTP server for me, but thanks anyway.

Hey were you able to figure it out? I did so many things and then I realized it was the simplest fix ever. I had copied the whole downloaded folder (environmentloaderc-457 blah blah) directly onto my sd card. What I was SUPPOSED to do was copy just the wiiu folder inside that folder. So on my sd card the first thing that shows up is "wiiu", not "environmentloaderc-457". Maybe you made the same dumb mistake I did. If not, let me know how what you've tried so far because I did a lot of research so maybe one of the other methods I saw would help.
