Xbox and Nintendo enter 10-year deal to bring Call of Duty games back to Nintendo systems

The Microsoft-Activision merger hasn't happened quite yet, but Microsoft is making plans presuming that the deal will go through eventually. CEO Phil Spencer has announced that Microsoft and Nintendo have entered into a 10-year-long deal, which will see the Call of Duty franchise brought to Nintendo's platform. This would mark the first time the series has returned to Nintendo systems since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts, which was released for the Nintendo Wii U.

Microsoft has offered the same deal to PlayStation as well, who at the time of writing has not accepted, all while antitrust and government regulators continue to go back and forth over whether or not the finalized acquisition of Activision would be fair to the market. Previously, Microsoft has been incredibly vocal about not making Call of Duty into an Xbox exclusive franchise. Spencer also revealed that Call of Duty games will continue to release simultaneously on Steam for PC players, assuming that the deal goes through.

the switch will probably get remasters* of the older games

*remastered by just changing the controls to fit the switch layout and changing icons, the rest of the game is exactly the same
To be perfectly honest I'd love this for Zombies. Black ops 1-2-3 an WAW are all classics and I'd buy it just for zombs. Assuming the price is right.

you don't want the "last gen" version of black ops 3, it looks like a low effort mod for world at war and runs terribly

Plot twist: for technical reasons, the switch recives only a port of the very first Call of Duty without any enhancement, and this end up outselling everything else on other platforms.

Can just see it, the fanboys been pissed that they have to invest in expensive memory cards in order to download the game.

Ohh wait, that only applied to Sony and the Vita.

Well we all know the switch has no problem storing the game onto its game carts seeing that they've been getting away with ripping gamers off long enough now by charging gamers over £50 for a disc that contains files approx 30MB in total.

Basically acts like a key to download the game anyway.

Correct me if I am not mistaken, but don't gamers like to buy physical copies of games to actually own the game rather than pay for all this digital crap that you never actually own.

If we wanted to download the game, then we would purchase it digitally.

The switch can barely run games from 2 gens ago (yes, nintendo are up a gen vs Microsoft and Sony) so fat chance of it running anything recent, but saying that, we all know how nintendo always get the old crap ported over........ eventually.

But Microsoft need to look at the for what it is, craptivision haven't ignored nintendo when it comes to releasing CoD games to its platforms.

Its the fact nintendo consoles are just cheap and nasty, it would cost them more to have a dedicated team to make a dedicated CoD game and it wont justify the cost in doing so because it wont sell well enough to do so.

And if they were to try run anything they release now, it'll need watering down so much that it'll be pathetic and pointless and still run like shit.

So unless Microsoft intend on paying to port over all of the CoD titles from the 360 because thats all it'll do.

And its the reason why nintendo always do a shit job when it comes to third party support, and its done for a reason.

But this is why they lost exclusivity to Resident Evil, why capcom no longer do exclusives anymore after twice failing to meet the required sales on nintendo platforms.

Even better! I don't even care about cod series after black ops 3. I'd definitely buy it if they make a good modern warfare 1-3 remastered on switch.

Btw if you haven't played cod mw and mw2 campaign remastered, give them a try. They are high quality remakes unlike gta trilogy.

Proof 4k switch with dlss
Even the Switch successor probably won't be 4k, I'd bet 1080p.

i highly doubt this, imo the 4k switch will be the next gen switch, they wont waste 4k on a mid gen updgrade specially when the switch is 6 years old in 3 months. imo by year 7-8 we will get switch 2 so its a waste to release a mid gen upgrade that will only last 2 years before being useless.
You're expecting Nintendo to deliver a console with 4k? They're too cheap to even include 128GB of storage on the OLED Switch.

MW1 and MW2 were already remastered for PS4/Xbox and PC (you do mention it, I know). And those are the two CoD I ever really liked, honestly.

This generation has made Nintendo physical games kind of pointless since there's content that needs to be downloaded digitally so you're not really getting a "plug-and-play" experience.

Oh, and don't even get me started with the trainwreck that's Mario Strikers Battle League! Barebones game with the promise of content being delivered digitally... Sigh.

Everything, even half baked and full of bugs, sell a lot on switch, that's what I was thinking about.
what do you mean it sells alot? most games dont sell alot only 1st party games do sell.

https://www.vgchartz.com/games/game...owcriticscore=1&showuserscore=1&showshipped=1

if you look at the list the top 50 is basically almost 99% nintendo/exclusives

heck even fortnite didnt pass the 1 million mark, so what exactly do you consider selling well? most 3rd partys dont have much luck on the switch tbh.

The title is missleading, it's not a deal with Nintendo, it's a "commitment" to bring CoD to Nintendo system, it does mean nothing, speak is free, more when you have to appease monopoly regulators. We'll see.

Well that's a funny twist, trying to use Nintendo for the deal to go through, when they had no problem with it at all hah.

But ya, it's just a "commitment", there is no deal here. They'll probably stop once the first one they bring over doesn't reach their sales expectations.

I’d be more interested in seeing a console collaboration. Think about this: SwitchBox pro XL2025 edition. Lmao. Seriously though, it’s good to se Nintendo is thinking of bringing CoD back to their system. I haven’t been a fan of CoD in quite sometime but maybe it’ll expand the Nintendo base and cause Nintendo to do more to serve the hardcore players.
