I have been using EZ flash jr for a month without problems, both on an original Game Boy and on a Game Boy Color. The last time I played was two days ago, but today when I turn on the game boy color with the Ez flash jr, no file or folder appears in the menu and when I press the A button it shows me the error on the screen of "error file ". I have tried formatting the microSD, with other microSD and it still fails.

The micro sd card is an 8 GB Samsung Class 8 formatted a month ago in FAT32 and 32 KB cluster, the strange thing is that it has been working fine for me without problems until today. I've tried it again with the original gameboy and it doesn't work either.

Could you help me with the problem?

Thank you.

I'm having the exact same issue. Yesterday was working just fine, today suddenly nothing.

Things to note after attempting to troubleshoot:

- The SD Card isn't dead, as it works perfectly fine when connected to other devices.

- Reformatting the SD card (yes, with the correct SD card formatting software and kb rate etc) doesn't resolve this. A game title wouldn't be causing this because when I reformatted I didn't put anything back on except a folder titled "test". Just to make sure it's not the system expecting something in the folder I put a text.txt file in the folder, same result. Did the same for a game that has been proven to work fine in the past, still same result.

- It IS reading the SD card to SOME extent as its able to boot into the menu where files would be shown and you can change the time etc., but where there would normally be a directory it's blank. Scrolling up/down does change the number in the top corner, so it's indexing through SOMETHING (whether this is just how the file selector behaves even when not populated idk), but pressing A to confirm a selection results in the "FILE ERROR" mentioned by OP.

- I tried pressing and holding the button on the PCB (which I'm STILL not sure the purpose of it since I've yet to find any documentation), hoping it may be some sort of reset button similar to a PRAM button on some older macs or something, this did not work.

Even for the heck of it I tried it in other Gameboy consoles in case it was some weird power failure going on with my GameBoy Color (unmodded).

It sounds like a hardware issue. Maybe @EZ-Flash2 can be of assistance.

UPDATE:

I went and bought a replacement SD Card, popped it in, and now it works fine. Even though literally everything else seems to operate fine with the old SD card, the EZ Flash JR seems to not like it. Which is even weirder since it WAS working just fine for a while, which makes me iffy on the reliability of it. Luckily when it was easy to get all my games and saves back on the new SD card so all's well that ends well.

Yeah I spoke too soon. The first time I formatted the new SD card and plugged it in the test ROM popped up, after moving in a couple more roms suddenly nothing shows. It does seem to be aware of the amount of files in the SD card, but it won't show the names and no matter what I do it continues to give me the "Error File" message.

Did you ever find a solution? I’m having the exact same problem and I’m at a loss here. Tried everything and it’s seems like files and folders just won’t show up.

Update - In case anyone has the same issue. I opened the cartridge and took out the battery I had in as well as cleaning the board with isopropyl. I put the ez flash jr back in the gameboy without the battery and everything works again. All files showing.
