Hello,

I have a question about something i just dont understand
Why is the Nintendo Switch considered as a 8th gen console?
It's pretty obvious that after the 7th, the wii, is the 8th, the wii u, so the switch should be the 9th, right?
So why, no matter where i look, all website say that the switch is of 8th gen just like the wii u?
They say that only the xbox series s/x and the ps5 are of 9th gen
Why not the switch?
They even say that the 8th gen is still ongoing...
I mean... Wtf...?

A new console generation starts around 7-8 years. So, I guess the Wii U is eighth?

Either way, my generation sucks already. :rofl2:

yes, the wii u is the eigth gen console of Nintendo
So why is the Switch considered as a eigth gen console and not as a ninth gen console since it was released after the wii u

Maybe it was released only 5 years after wii u? At that time sony and microsoft just released their mid-gen refresh models like ps4 pro/slim and xbox one x/s. Would be weird to call it 9th gen console when it's only half way through 8th gen lifecycle.

As I have previously said, a console generation typically ranges from 7-8 years and that it doesn't necessarily apply to the generation of us people which usually ranges from 20-30 years. The Switch was released 5 years after the Wii U.
