I don't remember ever coming across this, but now after I apply DLC's to my games, and trying to launch in atmosphere, I always get "unplayable downloadable content or update data was found. connect to internet to check software status"

I still have the option to start software anyways and play, I havent played much so Im assuming simply no DLC works but the game is still fine. This is just with recent games, I have other games that give no such message, and also have DLC applied to them.

Then the said game requires the latest update for the dlc to work. Not the switch update the game update

That was my best guess. Maybe a region thing? A bit of a stretch I know…
true I wondered about this myself tbh, at some point I figured this HAD to be the only possible reason.

well anyways I tried re-installing everything from scratch all over again with one game, however it did not fix anything. Still, I guess it could be a region thing cause I have no idea what else.

well im aware of when games showng when they are not up to date, mine do that as well if they are not the latest version.

However these games do not, as I would expect since I'm pretty sure I have the latest update. But the moment of applying the DLCs these messages happen, so I am thinking there is some sort of region problem.

What games are we talking about here?

Any news on which games???
I'm not sure but I wonder as updates for a game roll out and DLC is also rolled out. IF your on v1 Game and the DLC was released for V3 game iit may be possible it won't work. you'll need the update.

If there's more than one update I'm not sure if you need them all and need to install them in the correct order (can you go from V1 to V3 or do you need to install V2 first etc). Also will a V2 update overwrite a V3 one you've already ran?

It could even work in one game and not another depending on what checks the developer has used. Id say as a general rule if you've got the latest update file for the game it should work most of the time with DLC.

If you let me know which games I'll experiment with it.

I have had the same issue with a couple of games. Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. I install the updates and the game load. Once I apply any DLC I get the message. For Smash the DLC's are from much earlier versions so I was thinking if the order of the DLC items installed matters

Order doesnt matter the game just needs to be on the latest update for everything to work/show.
Same rule applies with updates- its not like PC games where you had to install updates in order to prevent errors.

What about install order in regards to installing a DLC that came out before the most recent update? If I delete Smash Bros and reinstall I cannot play unless I install the update because it knows that the update existed prior. I did not try to install the DLCs until after I had already updated the game

DLC also has versions and updates. So, you need to update DLC.
How can I tell if I am using an updated dlc? Is there a way to view the DLC version?

You can reset the tickets for example with Tinfoil. Then it won't know

Goldleaf can also remove any game updates- you might want to do that instead of uninstalling the game. Then make sure you have the latest smash Update 13.0.1 (v1769472)
In your case it might be wise to join a discord that has a tinfoil shop service since installing every single dlc manually will be extremely tedious. Or just buy the game+season passes to save all the headache.

I have been using Awoo and NS-USBloader for everything. Would trying tinfoil for the DLC's help? They install successfully with Awoo except for getting the message when starting the game

You can try tinfoil but while your at it maybe look elsewhere to get everything from another web source- start from scratch stop using the dlc's and updates your currently using. I personally pack dlc/updates into my game to avoid single installs but thats another whole topic

I have tried various DLC's for multiple games from multiple sources to the same result. The game plays flawlessly without any popup with game updates. As soon as I add any DLC I get the "unplayable downloadable content or update data was found. connect to internet to check software status". I look for the DLC content in the game and nothing is installed despite the file installing successfully.

For Smash I tried costumes, challenger packs, and characters like Piranha to no luck
For Mario Rabbid I tried the Donkey kong pack and ultra challenge pack

Then those DLC are either bad dumps or arent compatible to your game version. Not sure what to tell ya otherwise but from the info thats given it pretty much narrows down to those 2 possibilities. I can play Smash ultimate with all dlc on my sxos switch, so something is definitely fishy here. Gonna need more info on what you have. Are trying to install dumped dlc to play on a legit game? Im starting to think you just dont have the latest sigpatches installed if every dlc is unplayable.
