We had a very-very odd practice of some short list of games being only able to run on n3DS. I didn't fell to shafted as early adopter, since never planned to play anything from this new-only lineup. There was xenoblade 3D, but I finished Wii version back in the day and this game is too long to repeat it anyway.

Recently, I've tried to play Runbows. A freakin 2D sidescroller and it's new-only game. Game with graphics of a flash game with weird jointed sprites that actually shows how indie this game is. And o3DS couldn't handle this?
My butt was on fire. This so unfair. I think nintendo should've made some o3DS exclusive titles as well. Let those late adapters feel how is to buy the same system twice just to play a game or two. That would teach them a lesson, right?

What? Minecraft is n3DS only? Let's make mario maker o3DS only. Teach how to be creative on a portable device.

On a serious note. Yeah, N is bad at naming stuff. Good god, that this weird segregation practice didn't affect other consoles so far.

There is no point. N3DS can run everything o3DS can and limiting games to one system for no reason will only decrease sales.

You can try converting N3DS exclusives to run on o3DS but most of them won't run or crash at some point.

Because the n3ds is way more powerful and can do everything an o3ds can do plus more. And the games only on new 3ds, which are either the 6 or 7 big games like isaac, minecraft or xenoblade and fire emblem warriors, or shovelware eshop games made in unity, which were not optimised for o3ds. As for the segregation part, again, the o3ds is way too underpowered for some things, and Nintendo themselves did a ton of workarounds to make every game run on o3ds, like smash, pokemon usum and mario maker, which all use the extended memory mode.

The DSi had similar divisions, but way worse. All the DSi exclusive physical games (yes, those exist) only used the camera, and it appears that most dsiware games work on ds lite and ds with no issues, as shown by twilight menu. Soooo yeah, there you go.

I don’t see how that would be possible. The reason for New3DS exclusives was due the hardware needs for the games. The few games exclusive would literally run at an unplayable rate, even with EMM (extended memory mode.) Not only would it make no sense to make old3DS exclusive titles, I don’t even think it’s physically possible. The way the 3DS hardware works, would require locking the game to hardware cap. That would still just result in the gaming working on the new3DS, but with those extra hardware being locked out. Simply put, new3DS-exclusive games require the extra CPU cores, higher clock, and extra RAM to work. The 3DS is simply too weak with 2 less cores, slower clock, and less RAM.
