I'm trying to move a JKSV save for pokemon scarlet from a switch to another, however when I restore it in the second switch using JSKV, I get
"Save data in the Nintendo Switch couldn't be recognized"
both switches have same os, cfw and pokemon scarlet version
any suggestions?

For some reason the save is corrupted. I’m assuming you’ve tried creating a new save a million times?

Yes, I tried with multiple files and I tried to reboot too. I noticed that there is data in BCAT too, do I need to do anything special to restore?
Post automatically merged:

This is what I did:
- create a save game in Pokemon Scarlet on switch 1
- close the game
- take a backup of the save file with JKSV on switch 1
- take a backup of the BCAT file with JKSV on switch 1
- copy the files to switch 2
- create a save game in Pokemon Scarlet on switch 2
- close the game
- restore the save file with JKSV on switch 2
- restore the BCAT file with JKSV on switch 2
- restart the switch

You don’t need the BCAT, just the main save file. I’m at a loss for what could be causing "Save data in the Nintendo Switch couldn't be recognized"

E: googling that error message produces 2 hits.

1 is your post and the other is this one:

The solution was that the save file was actually corrupted. Not much to go on, here.

Anyone else seen this?

I tried the same steps with multiple save files, even by skipping the BCAT step, no luck

I’m fresh out of ideas on this one, mate. We’re not doing anything tricky here at all.

Can you restore it to the original Switch?

Anyone else care to try?

I found a workaround, for whatever reason if I import and export the file in pkhex (even without modifications), I can restore on switch 2. If anyone is interested I can try checkpoint too

Wild. I wonder what change it makes? Maybe we’ll never know.

If you could try it in Checkpoint that would be awesome in case someone else has the same issue.

Unfortunately Checkpoint crashes for me. Do you know by any chance what's the internal encoding of pokemon filesaves (i.e.: it's json or just bunch of custom bytes?) If it's something like json I can try to diff to see what changed

It’s 100% a binary file and not json.

I just went through the entire process playing Scarlet on my V1 and using JKSV to backup my save.

I then installed Scarlet on my V2, ran JKSV, pressed X on my profile picture, selected Create All Save Data.

I then copied the directory from /JKSV/Pokémon Scarlet/xxx from my V1 to my V2 in the same place.

Did a restore of the copied save file on my V2 and loaded up Pokémon Scarlet on the same…

Worked perfectly with JKSV…end to end.

Would you mind posting your game save here? Not a big deal if you don’t feel comfortable doing it. I’m just curious at this point…

I would prefer to not post it publicly, but I don't have an option to PM yet, can you PM me so I can reply?

If it makes you feel any better…

I’m going to try and remove all the files in there except main and see if it does any better but bottom line it’s happening at the source.

E: no dice. Cannot import this save. Going to send you my basic save (just opening scene) in case you want to confirm your receiving Switch but I’m 99.9% positive it’s a bad save from the originating source.

Question, when restoring a Pokémon s/v save file from jksv, do I need to backup/restore the "backup" and "poke_trade" files as well? Or only the "main" file?

I was successful doing only the main, but I had not played a lot so it might leave something out.

Try the restore at first with all three and if that doesn't work do it again with just the main.

gotcha, I was asking because I am transferring the save from a banned switch to a non banned one and did not want the data to get messed up
