Will likely work for a while, until newer games start using the newest SDK, then there won't be any way around it, you'd either have to update or not be able to play the newer games.
I like to wait to move to a big, numerical, update. It gives the devs time to iron out any kinks. Sometimes, though, I just to update to stay current. No problem in waiting until, as mentioned above, a game requires it.
I believe there are new keys for firmware 18. I saw a lockpick version for it. I didn't try it, because I haven't updated yet. You're perfectly fine staying on FW17 for the moment. But if, or rather when, a game gets developed for firmware...
